Visit from District 9455 Governor Jon Bilson

with highly interactive and informative speech

joined by Rotary Club of Morley,

 Club President Ian Bresland.

Following the

Rotary Club of Karrinyup

AGM this week, we heard from DG Jon Bilson,

 seen here with President Richard

. Jon gave us some key messages from RI

 before taking a refreshing approach

in leading an interactive session with members

answering some key questions

as to how we can keep Rotary relevant in 2020.

Members were reluctant to go home, continuing

the discussion informally after the meeting.

What an EPIC night! In total,

10 heads shaved and $112,000 raised for the

Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research

! The Rotary Clubs of Perth and Crawley extend a HUGE THANK YOU

to the Perth Community for your support towards this event.

To stand on stage with this amazing group of individuals driven by "Service Above Self"

is truly inspiring. Rotary is, without doubt,

 "People of Action"!

Emphasis was put on the effects on traffic of Covid

and how things will look in the post Covid era.

Thank you Sarah and Tim for a fascinating presentation.

Collection Day for Vinnies

Our guest speakers tonight were Monique Barker and Suzy Stanford

and they talked about how the Fitzroy River, Western Australia’s largest river,

stretching over 700km from the East Kimberley to the coast at King Sound

is under threat from large scale development in its catchment.

The Fitzroy River has a National Heritage listing for its outstanding cultural values

and supports a huge array of wildlife, including

18 species of fish found nowhere else in the world.

It is a critical breeding ground and nursery for the

 critically endangered Freshwater Sawfish.

Life on the River is unpredictable.

When it rains, floods bring wetlands to life and restore the River.

Between floods the river often stops flowing and animals

 hang on in permanent pools

 fed by underground water.

In some years there are big floods,

in other years there is almost no rain.

There are irrigation projects seeking to take water from the Fitzroy River

including for 325 Gigalitres and another for 50 Gigalitres.

In comparison, the whole of Perth and Southwest WA

uses just over 200 GL of water each year.

It is feared this level of irrigation will decimate the Fitzroy River

and leave it in a similar condition to the Murray-Darling catchment.

Monique and Suzy were looking for support in protecting this unique ecosystem.

Thank you Youth Mayor Dakota Manley, James and Kerryn

and Sue Girak received a Pride of Workmanship Award

. Both were presented by President Jeremy.

A great day at the Jarrahdale Oval and the SJ Men's Shed Fair.

We were cooking donuts with our team from the Byford & Districts Club

. With Kylee, Ramone and Sharlene doing the specialised roles

and Mel, our chief cook and Sheila on the till we enjoyed fellowship

with ourselves and with the public.

NRG member Dave arrived to help wrap up the effort

and secure the Club's trailer.

 Special congratulations to Jeanie,

who travelled from Mandurah to lend a hand.

Top job everyone.

Como Clean up....well done everyone
