This September's New Generations Month
takes on a different meaning than in the past.
The commitment to getting youth and young adults

actively involved in Rotary was strengthened in April
when representatives at the Council on Legislation approved
New Generations as the fifth Avenue of Service. .

and their impact on Rotary's future.
"The Council wanted to be sure New Generations programs

but also our communities and the world."

in leadership development activities, community and international service,
and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding. Programs include RYLA, Rotaract, Interact, and Rotary Youth Exchange.
"We truly have the finest youth programs in the world," says Klinginsmith.

We do a great job with these programs,
we just need to give them more visibility."
This month is a chance to celebrate the new Avenue of Service,

(parts of California and Nevada, USA).

"We are using this as a way to emphasize how Rotary International
views New Generations and its importance.
It's a springboard to communicate even more with our clubs about these programs."
Virtually every club in her district is involved with

one or more of the four youth programs.
A wide range of district programs fall under the New Generations umbrella, says Puliz.
"Focusing more on youth is crucial for Rotary to thrive and survive," she says.

"It's one of the reasons why we have programs on literacy, leadership training,
and ethics for young people."
She recommends that every club appoint a New Generations Service chair.

New Generations joins Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service,

Before starting a project, Rotarians are asked to think broadly
about how their club and its members could contribute within each avenue.
Klinginsmith says the best clubs are the ones that are well balanced.

After the last day of school I jumped onto a bus
with the 55 other exchange students from South Denmark and the Island Fyn
and we all headed on the experience of a lifetime; Eurotour.
We bonded with each other in unimaginable ways
and helped people we barely knew through good times
and bad times and by the end we felt like the 56 best friends anyone could ever have!!!
But it wasn’t all just about the relationships;
Eurotour was of course amazing more so because of all the amazing things we saw!
The Berlin Wall in Germany, the Prague Castle in the Czech Republic,
the Schonbrunn Palace in Austria, the balcony of Juliet in Italy,
the Eiffel tower in France, the Mannequin Pis in Belgium and so much more!!!
It truly was a life changing experience and I doubt that
I will ever have the chance to see so much of the world ever again

The Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Events expand in WA.

The Rotary Club of Swan Districts hosts Guildford Grammar School

for the 3rd year on September 22nd.
The eastern goldfields clubs used the wide open spaces for a RYDA

event to help save young people from becoming a road statistic.
The eastern states Rotary Clubs may have provided the meaningful RYDA events

to more than 170,000 year 11 students but WA is gaining on them.
Rotarians help save lives of youth overseas but also in the local community.
This is not with food, water and immunisation, but a form of vaccination.
Teachers and parents think it works and thank Rotarians for their commitment.
Now 29 WA Rotary Clubs have signed the RYDA Australia Compact to get started.

RYDA has been conducted with 14 high schools
making a day available for the RYDA event.
The school curriculum is loaded but the schools find a day,

thinking that it was a news report item.
I told him what Rotary was about with the RYDA program in WA
and how Deborah fitted in with the RYDA message.

The October edition of Rotary Down Under will summarise those efforts,
but in the mean time, Rotary District 9970 Governor Margaret Reeve
is receiving calls from all over the country and overseas

The Attadale Club has elected to support
the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society of Western Australia (MSWA)
as its major project this year through the sponsorship
of a 12 hour “Swim for MS” event which will be held
at the Melville Aquatic Centre in Booragoon
on Sunday 19th September from 8am to 8pm.

The Rotary Club of Attadale is seeking your club’s support
for MS sufferers throughout Western Australia
through our project in one of three ways.
Firstly and most importantly,

you can identify someone in your club or associated with a member (s)
of your club who would be willing and able to register a team for the event.
They would then find up to 12 other people
who would form a team under that person’s captaincy.
All would register on line and then add photos,
messages etc to encourage other people to support them in the event.
There is a registration fee of $30 per registrant which goes to MS but in return,
each swimmer receives food and drinks after their swim
and a participant’s pack which includes an event ‘t’ shirt,
a swimming cap and a number of other benefit items.
The communication possibilities are numerous
and are explained on the website.
Your club and its members can support the team by donating on line.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible
and the donor will be automatically issued with an emailed receipt by MSWA.
It is a particularly easy and user-friendly system.
You can even provide your team member with a message of support
and your donation will be displayed if you are happy to be acknowledged publicly.
All contributions, no matter how small or large,
will assist greatly.

but there are facilities to donate any amount.

It's a slow day in a dusty little Australian town.
The sun is beating down and the streets are deserted.
Times are tough, everybody is in debt
and everybody lives on credit.
On this particular day a rich tourist from down south is driving through town ,

stops at the local motel and lays a $100 bill on the desk
saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs
in order to pick one to spend the night
.He gives him keys to a few rooms and as soon as the man walks upstairs,
the owner grabs the $100 bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher
.The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street
to repay his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the $100
and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.
The guy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the $100
and runs to pay his drinks bill at the local pub.
The publican slips the money along to a backpacker drinking at the bar ,

Tired of the inconvenience of driving from the airport to his country cottage,
a man equipped his small plane with pontoons
so he could land on the lake directly in front of his cottage.
On his next trip however, he made his approach down the airport runway as usual.
Alarmed, his wife cried out,

"Are you crazy? You can't land this plane here without wheels!"
The startled husband yanked the nose up,
narrowly averting certain disaster.
