“My Home” houses completed and ready for residents.

The 18 homes constructed by “My Home” have been completed.

and the residents will be moving into the homes at the end of June.

Eighteen older women who are currently homeless.

have been offered homes in the development.

and will be moving in at the end of June.

If you haven’t already seen the national ABC TV

 news coverage on the project,

please view via this link.

This is an emotional reminder of the impact that these homes.

 will have on their residents.

Rotary WA has made an extraordinary effort in the past few weeks,

 led by Karrinyup Rotary president-elect,

Kay Durrant, to fit out the homes.

with furnishings and homewares as well as garden supplies.

Rotary can also be very proud of our role.

in bringing together other community groups.

such as Catholic Women’s League, Soroptimists International and Zonta,

to add more personal touches to the homes,

right down to Vegemite and peanut paste

waiting on the pantry shelves for the new residents.

A big thank you to all those who have participated in helping to turn.

“My Home” houses into comfortable and welcoming homes.

RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service

Thank you all for your wonderful generosity.

The NSW Government and RAWCS advises that the appeal.

for the Hunter Valley Tragedy has just hit $800,000.

A committee has been formed which includes members.

of the Singleton Sunrise Rotary Club, Singleton Council,

Singleton Roosters AFL Club,

Warrandyte-Donvale Rotary Club and the Warrandyte Cricket Club.

The immediate beneficiaries have been identified.

and the funds are in the process of being distributed directly to them.

The fund is being managed though our

Charity the Rotary Australia Benevolent Society

and I wish to assure you that all funds,

apart from our 2.75% (incl GST) administration fee,

will be remitted to the eligible recipients.

Those eligible are defined as those people.

who were directly affected by the bus crash

(On the bus or the four wedding guests

following in a car that witnessed the crash.

and rendered immediate aid) and their immediate family (parents,

 partners, siblings and children).

Special provision will be made for the two boys.

who sadly became orphans as a result of this terrible event.

The Board of RAWCS and the Rotarians of the Singleton Sunrise Rotary Club

and their committee, set up to manage the fund distribution,

are all volunteers and we very much appreciate your support

Such a wonderful evening of celebration at our Club on Tuesday:

We welcomed 2 new members : Sandy and Graham.

John Stockbridge
PHF plus four sapphires

Robyn received her third sapphire Paul Harris Fellow recognition.

Bill Benbow was gifted a beautiful silver jug from a fellow Rotarian Phil Ledger.

What a wonderful gift of kindness and recognition. The story is as follows:

Ted Ledger was a member of Subiaco Rotary Club

and was the District Governor 1960-61.

He was presented with a silver mug at the end of his Term by District.

Bill Benbow - also a member of Subiaco Rotary Club

- was District Governor 2004-2005….

however, District had stopped giving out any silver mugs…

. much to Bill’s disappointment 😀

Ted’s son - Phil Ledger - a current Karrinyup Rotary member

and also, past District Governor 1991-1992-

kindly donated the silver mug to Bill –

not only because he “ missed out” previously.

but in recognition of Bill having been a member for 50 years in Rotary.

Over 33 million children vaccinated.

against wild poliovirus in southern Africa.

A year since Malawi confirmed.

its first case of WPV1 in 30 years,

more than 33 million children

across five southern African countries

have been vaccinated against the virus,

with over 80 million vaccine doses

 administered over the past year.

A child in Malawi getting the Oral Polio Vaccine drops.

A total of nine wild poliovirus cases have been reported so far,

with one in Malawi and eight in neighbouring Mozambique

since the declaration of an outbreak on 17 February 2022 in Malawi.

The last confirmed case to date was in August 2022 in Mozambique.

The wild poliovirus in Malawi and Mozambique originated from Pakistan,

one of the two last endemic countries.

Concerted emergency response launched following the outbreak in 2022.

has helped increase protection among children through vaccines in Malawi,

Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.

The countries have also ramped up disease surveillance.

and community mobilization to help find cases and halt the virus.

“Southern Africa countries have made huge efforts to bolster polio detection,

curb the spread of the virus and ensure that children live

without the risk of infection and lifelong paralysis,” said Dr Matshidiso Moeti

, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa.

“We continue to support the polio control efforts across the region.

so that every child receives the protection they need.”

To date, 19 vaccination rounds have been concluded i

n the most at-risk areas

and at least five more are planned for 2023 in the five countries.

ShelterBox 2023:

Getting shelter to where it's needed, fast.

Earthquakes, floods, fires.

have been happening for millions of years.

It's how we prepare and respond that can cause.

or prevent these becoming a disaster.

Rotary takes great pride in supporting ShelterBox.

Giving to our local community is what we’re all about.

This morning we were at Clarkson Community High School

with Principal Kirsty Watson, presenting her with vouchers to help students.

Vouchers will be used to purchase learning essentials and

other much needed necessities for students.

Additionally thanks to our Rotary Mindarie club member Andrea,

we also presented the school with a selection of writing materials.
