Congratulations Yvonne
One of our own Rotarians has just received an Order of Australia Medal,
which she was awarded a couple of years ago.
COVID interfered with ceremonies over the last little while,
but she was finally recognised in a ceremony in Perth
this week
to receive her OAM
What fantastic progress and great outcomes.
We are
proud to have helped achieve this impact.
It was great to get out to beautiful Big Grove today to visit the

Como SC’s Interact Club organised a Crazy Sock and Hair Day
to raise money for the Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
The Kanyana Centre is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated
to protecting and caring for some of WA’ most threatened native wildlife.
A guest speaker from Kanyana spoke
to Interact members about the project.
Huge thanks to all the staff and students for their support
which raised $303.10.
And an extra special thanks to Interactor Kal K.
who through his Containers for Cash efforts donated $150 to the cause.
Amazing
job everyone!

and how much we
share as Rotarians.
Christopher from Rotary Club of Sentosa Singapore
dropped in to say hi at the Stirling Farmers Market today…
Well the 2022 Wine Show has drawn to a close once again.
What a great night.
Going back a few days setting up for judging at Town Hall
started on Wednesday afternoon with judges benches
and all heavy furniture being moved to Town Hall.
Spotlights being set up - which is not an easy job –
and all general set up taking
place
Thursday morning saw all wine glasses washed,
wines bought into Town Hall for judging and wine tasting area
set up at the Tall Timbers Brewery.
By mid day the
hall was completely set up for judging on the Friday.
Friday saw all stewards doing the first pour of wines by 8am
and the day went very smoothly finishing about 3pm.
Judging panel were very professional and once judging finished
all remaining wines were moved to Brewery for Tasting that night.
At 6.30pm the Brewery opened up for the Wine Show Dinner
and Award Night.
The venue looked fantastic with many thanks going to Tall Timbers
staff for their excellent set up.
Special thanks to Elly from Tall Timbers whose baby is due in 1 week.
The wine tasting went so well this year with the wines being
set up along the bar and the back area of the Brewery
so we avoided crowds in any 1 area.
The Meal was excellent and well served.
I am not going to cover any winners
as I don’t want to make any errors
but sufficient to say the Awards went well with an excellent MC
and the addition of someone professional to operate the excellent screens
and the well presented power point.
Now to go back a few months to the work undertaken
by the Wine Show Committee.
Congratulations on behalf of Rotary and the Wine Industry
for all your hard work and excellent planning.
Also many thanks to other Rotarians
for helping with the set up of judging,
washing glasses, stewards, brewery set up team for wine tastings.
Not naming names as it is easy to miss someone
and everyone who
helped did a great job.
I am sure I could add so much more but once again
I would like to congratulate the Wine Show Committee
for such an excellent Event.
I have included just a couple of photo’s
but there will be many more
when we have the
Wine Presentation meeting on Monday 10 Oct.
I hope the
committee can now have a well earned rest.
Every year for the last 20 (approx.) years Margaret River Rotary
has organized mock interviews for the yr 12 students from
Margaret River Senior High School,
to assist with their next moves into the workforce.
Today I had the pleasure of working with Francine & Maxine
who between them have clocked up 30 years of interviews!
Its a massive project with up to 60 students
and over 40 volunteers each year.
Big shout out and thank you to all the volunteers who interviewed
and to the students who put their best foot forward,
we wish you all the very best as you venture into new territory
Hugely successful donuts at the Moora show
thanks to these amazing humans!
The cadets were super! What a day! Thank you!
Meeting 14th September PP Gordon Hudson (Volunteer CEO)
and Peter from the RC Scarborough were welcomed.
Brother Olly Pickett is
the factory manager.
Established in 1996,
Wheelchairs for Kids has evolved from using old bicycles
to create wheelchairs, to now a very solid, safe
and customized wheelchair for each child.
A pool of over 240 volunteers work mornings to produce
some 400 wheelchairs a month.
Added to this there are knitters throughout Australia making rugs
and dolls/ toys to go with the wheelchairs.
Since 1998 over 53,000 wheelchairs have been distributed
in almost 100 countries.
Currently delivery is mainly carried out by aide
agencies such as World Vision.
The cost of a chair is currently $250
. With it costing almost $100,000
a month to run the factory in Wangara,
donations and fundraising activities are heavily relied upon
. In recent years a Wheelathon has been
introduced into Australian schools,
whilst being a great fundraiser,
it's also a lot of fun
Excellent Club meeting last Monday evening,
with Jo Wilkie from Soroptimist South Perth Club (SISP)
providing an update on the Over 55’s Housing Project for Women.
Project was established late last year, with community support
by local community service clubs
(SISP/Rotary Como & Mill Point & Lions Club)
, as a lobby voice re our combined concerns of the
issue.
Jo’s wonderful leadership is identifying potential opportunities
with major local investor groups, supported by State
For a number of years, Rotary Como has been so very supportive
of our Starting Over Support Program.
Every year they go above and beyond providing us
with many donated items and
some much needed $ to
help when we run out of goods needed for our crisis families.
During the month of July, we were presented with a cheque for $3,130.00.
We had
the pleasure of a visit from
the new President Elect – Kevin Saunders
together with John Dodman (Past President/Director Community Services.
We are all so extremely grateful for
your kindness and ongoing support
