Details	DG 9465 Bob Cooper, DG 9455 Phillip Skelton and WA public image coordinator PDG John Kevan invite you to a combined Rotary Districts 'Marketing and Communications Workshop'. "Effective communication with the public is vital for engendering active involvement of the public in the wonderful community service conducted by Rotary Clubs and in attracting suitable people to join Rotary Clubs. An essential precursor is deciding what image of Rotary we want to portray, and then ensuring consistency in portraying it through the most effective channels.   So the forthcoming Marketing and Communication Workshop in which you are invited to actively participate is focussed firstly on what we collectively want Rotary in WA to become in the next few years, secondly what image of Rotary in WA we wish to portray and thirdly on determining the most effective methods to use.  ( Naturally the image needs to be consistent with the revitalised Rotary brand that RI is well advanced in developing and the Australia-wide image of Rotary on which our Rotary Zone Public Image Coordinator Philip Archer will bring us up to date.) Thus it is a strategic marketing and communications planning workshop, not the traditional detail "how to" of writing media releases or designing banners and leaflets or creating a Facebook page, although sources of help for all the "how to"s, both traditional and new, will be mentioned.  It is not a talk fest.  The outcome will be an agreed outline communications strategy for Rotary in WA.   This will be a game changing event if the maximum number of Rotarians intent on making change happen attend and actively participate.   The venue is North Lake Senior Campus, Winterfold Road, Myaree. No date is ideal for everyone and after canvassing possibilities we have settled on Sunday 24 February at 11.00am to 3.00pm.  What better way to celebrate the birthday of Rotary than make a positive change in its public image!!   Some pre-reading will be sent you shortly".   Phillip Skelton AM DG 9455

 

 In early December 2012, Typhoon Bopha struck northern Palawan 

in The Philippines with winds of 120 kilometres per hour and gusts of up to 150 kilometres per hour,

 leaving thousands homeless.

 Sucessive ShelterBox Response Teams have worked with local partners

 to distribute aid but have faced various challenges in the field including land clearance 

and ongoing weather troubles. Work continues, with 90 boxes and 5 tents distrubuted so far.

 The on-going conflict in Syria has caused a continuous stream of refugees

 to flee to neightbouring countries.

 With 500 winterised boxes already distributed in Iraq Kurdistan,

 ShelterBox continues to work with partners in host countries like Jordan,

to find ways of helping those in need during a particularly harsh winter

 In August 2012, Typhoon Bolaven caused downpours to sweep

 across east and west coastal areas of the East Asian country

 leaving 26,320 people displaced; 50 missing; and 59 dead.

162 boxes were deoployed and, recently,

 ShelterBox Operations Manager and Response Team member, Alf Evans (UK)

 deployed to North Korea to build relations with the implementing partners

 and verify distributions in the affected counties of Pyongsan, Rinsan, Sohung and Kumchon.

Best Friends

A chief executive of a major company was scheduled

 to address an important convention,

 so he asked the press officer to write him a punchy, twenty-minute speech.

 But when the chief executive returned from the convention,

 he was furious.

"What's the idea of writing me an hour-long speech."

 he raged at the press officer. 

"Most of the audience walked out before I was even halfway through!"

    The press officer was mystified.

 "I wrote you a twenty-minute speech," he said. "

I also gave you the two extra copies you asked for."
