One of the highlights of our Rotary year

was our visit to WA Wildlife last evening.

We took pride in awarding the native animal hospital.

with our inaugural Community Service Award.

Dean Huxley's prolonged and effective leadership was recognised through.

our award to him of a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Our little Club also awarded CEO Diane Munrowd

 a prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship

in recognition of significant volunteer leadership and outstanding work

in building links with the community and funding organisations.

Further awards went to Sue Mackay, both a Rotary Club member

and dedicated wildlife volunteer.

Veterinarian Meg Rodgers' dedicated and inspirational work with both animals.

and student veterinarians was recognised in another award.

Hospital Manager Karen Clarkson was recognised for her work.

in animal rehabilitation training programs.

John Feary was at his eloquent best in speaking of the history of Rotary,

both on a global scale and locally. John's words embodied the strength.

of our Club's support for WA Wildlife.

The evening closed with a tour of the animal hospital.

and an opportunity to meet some of the residents.

Aspiring journalist, Elena, interviewed members of the WA Wildlife team.

We look forward to hearing of her information gathering.

The Tarkine (Takayna) is noted for its beauty and natural values,

containing the largest area of Gondwanan

 cool-temperate rainforest in Australia.

This October,

join our team and explore the wonders of the Tarkine in Tasmania,

whilst helping to provide emergency shelters and tools

for families who have been affected by devastating disasters.

Take this opportunity to explore the Tarkine and experience.

its vast forests of myrtle, leatherwood and pine trees,

living links to Gondwanaland that it shared with

Patagonia, Papua-New Guinea, and New Zealand.

The Rotary Club of West Perth and the RCWP Trust have partnered with RFDS.

to become an "RFDS Champion" and support a creative fundraising plan.

for the RFDS Flying Doctor Day Appeal on May 17th, 2023.

This event celebrates the 95th anniversary.

of the first RFDS flight on May 17th, 1928.

Donations made to the appeal will be matched dollar-for-dollar by

 RFDS Matched Giving Partners

(Roy Hill, CBH Group, IOG Ltd, and Sandfire),

effectively doubling the contribution to RFDS.

Together, they aim to turn $1 into $4 and raise funds.

for the purchase of vital equipment.

For our next hands-on volunteering project, we'll be down at

 Darling Range Wildlife Shelter WA

for a Saturday morning busy bee 🐝.

We'll be lending a helping hand to tidy up their wildlife shelter.

and hope you can join us.

You'll see all the wildlife being nursed and rehabilitated onsite.

and also it's a great family friendly event to get involved in.

The event is also held during National Volunteer Week

and is a celebration in recognising all the volunteer contribution

across Australia to make communities a better place.

Over two years in the making,

works have begun on the extension of our shed.

We are thrilled that our shed will now be known.

as the Rotary Club of Esperance Community Storage Shed.

None of this could have been possible with our the generous

donations and grants from

Shire of Esperance , IGO LtdLotterywestHorizon Power,

Esperance Lions Club, Rotary Club of Esperance Bay

 and Esperance Community Fundraising Group

Karrinyup Rotary's

winter support for the homeless commenced several years ago.

 with collecting warm socks.

This year's 'Socks for the Homeless' drive started.

earlier than previously and was again very successful.

Over 420 pairs of socks were collected.

Some were given to Perth Children's Cancer Hospital

and Ronald McDonald house.

At both these places, the socks become puppets for the sick children.

or provided clean socks for the family members,

who at a moment's notice may have to come to Perth.

 for their children’s health care.

The remaining socks were added to the

 backpacks for the homeless,

which Karrinyup Rotary provides each year.

These were filled with essentials to provide food.

and comfort during the winter months.

and handed out to the needy by the Perth City Homeless Working Group.

The backpacks contain such items as blankets, socks, beanies, gloves, scarves,

toiletries and food. Sleeping bags were also added to the contribution.

Pressing up of the donated wool by many of our supportive members

meant some of our retired farmer members were put to great use.

A huge effort and very much appreciated.
