Rotary International President Nominee Announced

Mário César Martins de Camargo,

a member of the Rotary Club of Santo André, São Paulo, Brazil,

 has been selected to become

Rotary International President

 for 2025-26.

He will officially become the nominee on 15 September.

if no other candidates challenge him.

A Rotarian since 1980, de Camargo.

has served Rotary as director, trustee,

RI learning facilitator, committee member and chair,

 and task force member.

De Camargo plans to boost Rotary’s public image.

by working from the top down.

“Rotary today has strong competition for members and funds,” he says.

“We need to rejuvenate the brand, especially in some zones.

We should utilize post-pandemic meeting tools.

… to allow the president to address Rotarians all over the globe.

We also need to develop more long-term partnerships.

with political, community, and business leaders.

Let’s emphasize our greatest asset: 1.4 million volunteers.”

He also hopes to improve Rotary’s process for appointments and governance.

“Rotary should adopt a more transparent system to appoint volunteers.

for positions, with clear criteria and data-based evaluation of results,” he says.

ROTARY SAYS NO TO FAMILY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

42 women across Australia have been murdered.

in just 32 weeks of the year.

Two WA women in the last week alone.

Let's walk to show others that we support victims of domestic violence,

to create hope in their lives.

Walks have been organised which we can join:

Mandurah Silent Walk:           Friday 24th November

Midland March that Matters:  Thursday 30th November

Perth Silent Walk:                   Tuesday 5th December

We will soon email clubs with a link to register for the walk

and to purchase a specially designed t-shirt see pictures below).

  These t-shirts will not be compulsory;

wearing any Rotary shirt will show your support.

We are people of action, let's do it!

WANT TO BE MORE ENGAGED?

LEARN MORE ABOUT ROTARY WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S

FAMILY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COLLECTIVE (FDV COLLECTIVE)

Abuse and violence between intimate partners, and between family members,

has profound impacts upon the victims,

those who witness it, and also those who perpetrate it.

There is a concerted effort at all levels in the Western Australian community.

to respond to this issue and many Rotary Clubs and individual Rotarians in Western Australia

are contributing through projects that support service providers.

, and initiatives that directly support survivors.

Many Clubs have expressed a desire to be more engaged.

The FDV Collective’s aim is to promote and strengthen Rotary’s responses through:

  • Raising awareness and promoting understanding within Rotary of FDV.
  • Linking like-minded Rotarians to improve synergies between projects and initiatives.
  • Advocating for and promoting new initiatives.
  • Collaborating with other Rotary initiatives in District 9423 that have an impact on FDV.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with the service sector
  • to ensure that Rotary’s actions are appropriate and targeted to where they are needed most.

Join us at our interest meeting on 30th August from 7:00 - 8:30pm

to strategise the way forward for Rotary Western Australia's Family and Domestic Violence Collective.

We are also looking for Rotarians to join our committee.

In April 2023, the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation

approved a new kind of grant for deployment.

in Australia and Brazil

Corporate Social Responsibility Grants, or CSR Grants.

CSR Grants provide a straightforward way for corporations.

 to engage with Rotary

in the delivery of mutually agreed outcomes.

For example,

if a corporation has a focus on making a difference

in the education of children in indigenous communities,

chances are there’s a Rotary club.

that will have very similar aspirations.

along with the ‘feet on the ground’ to bring the project to life.

In other cases, an Australian Rotary club may,

as an example, be looking for funding for a project.

 that will deliver outstanding outcomes.

in the growth of small businesses in a country

where the corporation is doing business.

Rotary’s network of over 35,000 clubs,

in almost every country in the world,

 can help make this possible.
