Thank you to clubs who have sent in an application already. If your club hasn't, time is running out! If your club would like to sponsor someone, but doesn't have a candidate in mind, please let me know as we always have applicants without sponsoring clubs who we can put you in touch with. RYLA is an intensive eight-day program designed for 18-28 year olds with leadership potential and a commitment to community service. The program is a unique opportunity aimed to bring participants out of their comfort zone and challenge them to think outside the square while actively using and building on their existing skills and knowledge. RYLA includes seminars, workshops, physical activities and team games relating to areas including Communication and Public Speaking, Leadership, Team Work and Group Dynamics, Problem Solving and Decision Making, Goal Setting, Time Management and Self Awareness and Emotional Intelligence. All applications must include the name of their sponsoring Rotary Club, and we expect that applicants have contacted their local Rotary Club to arrange sponsorship prior to submitting the form. The RYLA
Committee will assist with this if necessary. Applicants are interviewed prior to acceptance onto RYLA. Successful applicants will have the energy, commitment and motivation to develop their leadership potential and be willing to challenge themselves physically and mentally over the course of the program. Please note: Applicants who have come to us via a Rotary Club will receive priority acceptance onto the program. RYLA is held at the Serpentine Camping Centre from Saturday

It is a vibrant, valuable and productive business Fellowship that enhances B2B and B2C commerce between and for Rotarians in business, and also provides an avenue to help strategically scale up members' good works at their Rotary Club. The meal was once again spectacular and all the members and guests really enjoyed the night. Great evening visiting the Arts & Technology Display at Como SC, and catching up with Kirsten Hocking, Visual Arts Teacher. by student Afreena (pictured here), is a Secondary School Artist Award Winner. The Rotary Club of Matilda Bay organised the fourth Mental Health Awareness Golf Day on Friday 28 October 2022 at the superb Mt Lawley Golf Club. Proceeds went to front line providers of mental health care including angelhands, Uni
Camp for Kids and Lifeline WA. Karrinyup Rotary was represented by Paul Salisbury (friend of Les), Jane Abbott (special guest), Phil Ledger and Les Woodland. The team played solidly and finished fourth, just outside the
money, in the keenly fought Ambrose event. No one was lucky enough to score a hole-in-one on the par three hole, so the Lexus E250 worth $72,000 went
unclaimed. At the after-game Gala Dinner, three of the Karrinyup golf team players were joined by Annette Ledger, Marilyn Woodland and Trish Salisbury. Dinner participants heard from Dr Ann O’Neill founder of ‘angelhands’, a not-for-profit organisation serving at the heart of trauma recovery, which focuses on helping victims of violent crime. At the age of 24, Ann suffered an unthinkable tragedy, when her estranged husband broke into her home and shot Ann and their two small children before turning the gun on himself. Only Ann survived. Founding ‘angelhands’ helped Ann slowly rebuild her life. There were 150 people at the dinner to hear Ann's powerful presentation and participate in the many money raising events, auctions, silent auctions, raffles and even a caricature could be purchased from cartoonist Greg Smith – “Smithy”. The total money raised for the day and evening was in excess of $40,000. Rotary Karrinyup have supported this fund-raising event organised by Rotary Club of Matilda Bay for all of the four years and, hopefully, will continue to do so.
The Rotary Clubs of Karrinyup and Scarborough joined and collaborated at the incredible Mens Life Fest 2022; hosted on Saturday 5 November from 3.30 pm till 9.30 pm - a late spring
afternoon with the spectacular Scarborough Beach as its backdrop. Thousands of people came out to enjoy Chess games involving opposite ends of male generations, Well-being demonstrations, a range of amazing Support Groups (including Rotary), a variety of international food trucks, a moving sunset smoking ceremony by local elder
Len Yarran. There were live cooking demonstrations empowering men of all ages to cook a perfect steak by the legend Vince Garreffa, Men of The West wowing the crowd with their blending harmonies. The Rotary Club of Karrinyup has had a long association with ,having been involved since its inception in the early 1990’s. Our Charter President Graham Fosbery, served as a Director, during those early years. He was also instrumental in introducing our late Past President Barry Tibbits to the Foodbank Financial committee, where he was able to provide professional financial services and guidance during a difficult period of rapid growth at
Foodbank. This week, Ian de Nazareth, seen here with former Community Service Director Peter, visited our club to bring us up to date with recent developments. The statistics about people needing food support are just staggering and the logistics of feeding those in in need throughout the state are almost overwhelming. However, it is the simple examples that illustrate the problem. Ian described how he was moved and motivated by the story of a young girl asking her mother for food and her mother having to explain that there simply was no food in the house. Single mothers are among the hardest hit as they need to work and raise their children without support. However, “food insecurity” also has an impact across the wider community, as increased interest rates and higher fuel costs are resulting in more families not having
sufficient food.
This week we welcomed Bruno Eltgen from the Rotary Club of Sablé in district 1510 in France, where he has been a member since 2006. He and his wife Sophie have two daughters Constance and Berenice. They live in the western area of France and we have a holiday house on the edge of
the Atlantic Ocean. Bruno has participated in the Youth and Interact Commissions. He believes Rotary Youth Exchange is quite extraordinary. His two daughters have completed exchanges in Argentina for one year for Constance and for one month in Philadelphia for Berenice. Bruno is a chartered accountant and auditor and runs his own business. Apart from work, he has two passions: golf and Australia. He belongs to the IGFR (International Golfers Fellowship Rotarians) and participated in eight Rotary World Championships since 2010 . In
Adelaide in 2014, he met Les Woodland, and they became friends. His passion for Australia started in 2008, when his family hosted an Australian Rotary Exchange student and he just had to come and discover the country for himself. Since that first trip, he and Sophie literally felt in love with this beautiful country and are now back for the tenth time. In 2018, they had the opportunity to buy an apartment located in Scarborough Beach. It is his dream to live in Australia with with his family, perhaps when he retires. is observed on 11 November to recall

So much conversation revolves around well-rehearsed automatic answers that are forgotten the instant after they’re heard. Revealing something a little deeper will make you a lot harder to forget. Plus, it gives those around you permission to be
vulnerable. So, as part of your duty to the fine art of speaking, go out today and be vulnerable. Let us know how it goes. Thank you to Shil for pushing us, for inspiring us,
