Zambia’s government is undertaking an ambitious new plan
to make malaria testing and treatment
more accessible by saturating the country with
36,000 community health workers,
about one for every
500 Zambians.
The national strategy
is getting a boost from Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia,
an initiative founded and led by Rotary
members.
The initiative was the first recipient of
Rotary’s $2 million Programs of Scale grant.
You can make a
difference in this world by helping people in need.
Your gift can deliver polio vaccines that
protect children for a lifetime,
provide clean water
and hand washing stations, and
supply medical equipment that gives newborns a
healthy start.
The Rotary Foundation will use your gift to fund the life-changing work of
Rotary members
who provide sustainable solutions to their
communities’ most pressing needs.
But to take action and make these projects
possible,
we need help from
people like you.
Please join us in making a difference by giving the gift of Rotary today.
Sincerely,
The Rotary Foundation

Celebrating hard work and success at Government House today
as the Governor and Mrs Dawson
welcomed WA students
selected for the 2023 National
Youth Science Forum Year 12 program.
The program offers participants the chance to explore their passion for
science
and technology through a series
of in-person and digital science,
technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM) experiences.
Running since 1984 it has helped more than 14,000 young Australians
expand their STEM understanding.
The Governor and Mrs Dawson hosted an afternoon tea for the students,
organisers, supporters, and alumni,
with the Governor congratulating
the students on their selection
for the National Youth Science
Forum.
“These studies will catapult you into the most fascinating futures,
as academics, researchers, scientists, teachers, inventors and beyond.”
The Governor also thanked National Youth Science Forum organiser
s for their continued work in educating young people about
the importance and wonders of
STEM,
as well as Rotary in
Western Australia
for their ongoing support of the program.
Proud to call her one of us!
Congrats Michelle for ”making a difference in
the community”.

On International
Volunteer Day,
we thought it timely to give a
shoutout to our Stirling
Farmers Market Volunteers:
The Market is run solely by volunteers, mostly from the Rotary
Club of Karrinyup –
either members or participants of
our Youth Programmes
(like current and past Rotary Youth Exchange Australia,
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards - RYLA -
District 9455,
Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (D9455)
or National
Youth Science Forum (NYSF) students,
or recipients of youth scholarships).
But we also have help from Duke of
Ed WA student seeking Community Service
hours,
a whole bunch of fantastic
Churchlands Senior High School students,
Friends of the Market and past
members of our club.
Our volunteer Market Manager and Administrator work all week round,
sourcing and liaising with our
stallholders, dealing with the City of
Stirling
(who allow us to hold the market in their carpark),
arranging facilities (like
toilets) for the weekend, answering queries
from customers and plotting the
layout of each weekly market

The Club had an enjoyable and
interesting visit to Bunbury Foodbank.
Brian Piesse organised pizzas for this
vocational visit.
Ross Ranson was Chairman of the
committee which started Foodbank in Bunbury
and Dennis Evans, Roger Thornton and
Barry Johnston were among
the first volunteers at this
worthwhile agency.
Ray Jordon and Assistant Manager
Glenn welcomed us
and gave us some interesting facts.
Last financial year Foodbank provided
nearly one million meals
to struggling families in the
Southwest.
Fruit is collected each week from the
Southwest growers and the surplus
is sent to Perth Foodbank to be
distributed.
The Rotary Club of Bunbury donated $1500 on
the night
to assist with the supply of food.
Congratulations to management and
volunteers working
for Food Bank it is a wonderful service.
School Awards have commenced this week
