Walk for mental health research.

The Rotary Club of Kwinana are hosting their inaugural. 

LIFT THE LID WALK in 2023!

 

These walks are a great way to spread awareness of the 1 in 5 Australians

 who are suffering from a mental illness.

 Help us Lift the Lid on Mental Illness this summer by walking with us!

All proceeds go into mental health research through. 

Australian Rotary Health.

The Details so far:

What: A WALK not a race and only just over one kilometre,

 about twenty to thirty minutes.

 Starting from the Bendigo Bank Branch at 4 Challenger Avenue,

 the walk finishes at Kwinana’s highly awarded.

Adventure Playground at Calista Oval.

 The walk will take place on footpaths and crossing at traffic lights.

The event finishes with a free BBQ sausage sizzle provided.

 by the Rotary Club of Kwinana,

 a coffee van will be on site.

 

Who: Anyone who has been impacted by

or cares about Mental Health

– dogs on a lead are welcome.

 

Entry fee: $30 for adults which includes an event t-shirt.

Kids 16 and under walk for free.

You can purchase t-shirts for kids via the ticket site. 

Ticket sales open Tuesday March 21st, 2023.

 

Registration: Registration online,

 with t-shirts available for collection from 10 am

before the walk which commences at 11 am on 7th May 2023.

 Late registrations can be made on the day with credit card facilities,

 but t-shirts may not be available.

Meeting last Wednesday, after several past attempts,

 was finally a visit from District Governor Ineke Oliver.

Introduced by Pres. Fiona Tremlett.

DG Ineke spoke about her various of aspects of Rotary

- District - New District from her perspective.

Kate Chaney MP gave members a talk on her work in Parliament

 and her challenge to be seen to represent all of her constituents.

Anita arranged for volunteers to help pack up boxes of medical equipment.

 for the Doctors for Africa organisation this morning.

 Most of the items will be used in Madagascar.

97 boxes were loaded up at SCGH and then unpacked at Spearwood.

 A great job by the heavy lifters David and Michael.

Organisation and expertise provided by Anita.

A fantastic job well done.

Update: it was actually a total of 145 boxes packed

 and sent to Doctors for Africa

Tom Hoyer .I'm off to Timor-Leste again after a break due to Covid 19 and a ticker issue.

 Max (team leader from Kwinana) and Kevin (hydrologist from Margaret River)

 and myself will be training a new local team from Dili, to maintain,

 set up and drill for water with a drill rig Rotary extended.

to the Dom Bosco organisation.

 Maybe we can also fit in a trip to Lautem, Com and Ira Onu

(at the far Eastern part of the island)

 to look at repairs to a school roof. See if we can help out.

 We have been engaged with Timor-Leste for a while now,

 drilling for water, using gravity systems and tanks that

 deliver sustainable potable water supply.

nationally and locally to make the world a safer, healthier, and productive place.

 I will also drop some seeds off and update my graffiti on the Lautem Bridge.

 It was great to hear how much Emily enjoyed and valued.

 as a supporter of school programs.

Our club sponsored Taylor Han

 to attend the National Youth Science Forum in January

 and Taylor gave us some terrific feedback on her experience.
During the two-week forum,

Taylor visited a range of STEM organisations.

 [Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics] including:
· FUGRO, a world leading geodata specialist company,

 where Taylor learnt about space, deep sea and terrestrial research.
· WA Shipwrecks Museum and their work

in maritime studies and archaeology.
· The Harry Perkins Medical Research Institute, with particular focus

 on research into breast cancer treatment using honeybee venom.

This year, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup was proud to support

 the Apprentice Employment Network –

 WA 2022 Awards of Excellence (AEN WA)

in a new initiative of Rotary Vocational Service.

 The winner of the 2022 AEN WA Trainee of the Year, Alisha,

 was unable to attend the AEN WA evening at the club in January.

 and has sent a video thanking the club for our support.

Last Tuesday evening the Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie and the Rotary Club of Boulder

 held a thank you evening for Businesses and volunteers.

 who assisted us with the Great Aussie Breakfast on 26 January.

We also took the opportunity to thank the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder

for the continued support of the event –

 getting very close to the 25th year.
