538

It's been more than eighteen months since Russia.

launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

An estimated five million people remain displaced within Ukraine.

and almost six million are living as refugees abroad.

A further four million, seven hundred, people

have returned to their residence in Ukraine after a period.

of displacement either internally or internationally.

Humanitarian needs are stubbornly high within Ukraine,

with occasional sudden increases prompted by

 changing seasons

and the progress of the war.

Shifting frontlines mean some territory becomes.

 newly accessible.

while, from others, people flee in search of safety.

ShelterBox and its partners have already assisted

 over 50,000 people.

and now we are launching our sixth project to help

 a further 7,000 households.

 with emergency shelter and household

aid items, like blankets, solar lights and kitchen sets.

We need to raise $100,000 to help fund this project.

Please donate today to help those affected in Ukraine.

and provide lifesaving aid for families affected by disasters.

 and conflict around the world.

Wheelchairs for Kids

·

Zambia

For the past few days our volunteers

 have been hard at working

in our newly constructed Bridge building.

The bridge helps people cross over obstacles together,

it folds gaps so that they are surmountable.

The work our volunteers did is a small but essential part.

of the project behind Pamodzi Ndi Ana.

The children with disabilities come from far away,

in rural areas travelling many hours and kilometres

 bringing with them

their wheelchairs so that they can be.

 assessed and fixed if needed.

While others come to receive their new wheelchairs

or get their own wheelchairs extended.

One small part in our small way goes far in helping people.

. Through compassion, hard work, and dedication we can ensure.

that those who are most vulnerable have a chance at life

. Our work continues and we hope to

help many more going forward.

130 follow-ups done 🥰💪💪follow-ups.

thanks to all our friends.

This week, we're celebrating 30 years of community spirit.

and togetherness during Men's Shed Week!

The Men's Shed initiative has been a shining beacon.

in Australia’s regional towns since 1993,

bringing people together to tinker with machinery,

 share a cuppa with mates,

and have heart-to-heart conversations about mental health. 🤝

The local Men’s Shed in Kulin

is housed in the original Butler’s Garage

which was opened in 1938.

The building also operates as a museum,

inviting visitors to explore

a fantastic collection of vintage cars,

heritage farm equipment and a settler’s cottage

wonderfully restored by the community.

But that’s not all! In the spirit of inclusivity

, some Men's Sheds across Western Australia now

welcome women to roll up their sleeves.

 and get involved as well.

Let's use this week to check in on our loved ones’.

 in regional communities.

To learn more about this initiative

or visit the Kulin Men’s Shed visit the WAnderland website.

Paint the Highway REaD

On Wednesday 6 September, Craig and Susan went along to

Paint the Highway REaD’s Annual Reading Day event.

at the Mills Park Centre in Beckenham.

And what a wonderfully joyous occasion it was, too,

with much singing, dancing, art and craft taking place,

 along with reading and storytelling.

Taking centre stage, of course, was the story-reading team.

led by Maxine and the Possum triplets.

Last Community Grants night,

our club awarded the team with funds.

to purchase a portable PA system,

put to excellent use at this event.

Maxine thanked us publicly for our support,

quipping that it was so much better not to have to

 ‘Shout our stories.’

Paint the Highway REaD is a local version.

of the Paint the Town REaD campaign,

which encourages communities to read, talk, sing

and rhyme to babies and young children.

It’s run by a collection of volunteers and representatives.

from local councils, libraries, education services

, ‘not-for-profits’, and community groups,

of the Armadale, Gosnells, and Canning areas.

As part of the campaign, the REaD volunteers visit.

libraries, schools, shopping centres

and playgroups in the area,

conducting reading, singing and play sessions to

stimulate literacy and a love of reading.

Vocational Director Gerry McGann and Rotarian Geoff Longshaw

erect the latest Peace Pole at South Perth Primary school.

Peace Poles are internationally recognised symbols.

of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family,

standing in silent prayer for peace on earth.

Each Peace Pole bears the message.

"May Peace Prevail on Earth" in different languages.

on each of its four or six sides.

There are an estimated 250,000+ Peace Poles in the world,

nearly in every country, dedicated as monuments to peace.

There will be a dedication ceremony later in the month.

to acknowledge the sentiment of the Peace Pole.

APSN Chaoyang School, Singapore was gifted.

 30 handheld microscopes

by the Rotary Club Freshwater Bay on 28 August 2023.

The school immediately integrated the use of the microscopes.

into the upper primary science teaching curriculum.

A small group of students had the chance to trial the use.

of the new learning tool and were fascinated to see

the magnified images of organisms such as

 butterfly’s legs and goldfish scales.

Teachers were equally excited to include the new teaching.

and learning tool into their science lessons.

They believe that the microscopes will help students.

to develop a deeper understanding of science.

The handheld microscopes are a valuable addition.

to the Chaoyang School Science Department.

They will allow students to learn about

the microscopic world in greater detail.

Thank you to Freshwater Bay Rotarians Sheila Cheng,

LAU Eng Seng, Greg Acciaioli

and Nini Toley for attending the event.
