Rotary Western Australia & Foodbank WA
Rotary Clubs across WA provide support to a number
of local charities
but the
partnership with Foodbank WA is a special one.
Over the last few years, many charities, and
organisations.
have
struggled to find volunteers and donations,
with the challenges of the pandemic
and the changing face of the WA workforce.
For years now, Rotarians from across Perth
have been rolling up their sleeves.
and helping Foodbank WA to pack much-needed pantry
hampers,
hygiene
packs, and tea & coffee packs.
Rotary Clubs in WA also support Foodbank
throughout the year.
with their
food drives, such as Give a Feed and Cans for Christmas,
providing much-needed supplies and support when
they need it most.
And you don't have to be a Rotarian to
volunteer!
Foodbank WA
is always on the lookout.
for
volunteers and donations,
and you can
find out more on their website by Googling Foodbank WA.
Food Bank Geraldton,
Big thank you Jamie for hosting,
thank you, Suzie, for organizing
the vocation,
and guests Karren for coming
along.
thank you for all the food donated.

Has your club
had a direct or indirect involvement with setting up your local Men’s
Shed, or working with your local P&C, CWA, sports clubs, council or
other local community leaders and volunteer groups? More than likely,
YES!
Congratulations!
Your support assists Men's Shed, and other similar networks grow
across the WA community. If you haven’t had a Men's Shed
involvement, chances are you’ve worked with others on a project
promoting family and community health generally, or mental health
particularly.
Given the
primary reasons why Men's Sheds and similar groups were
established, and are now so popular in our community, there
are opportunities for your club to consider undertaking joint
activities during Mental Health Week in WA. This is coming up in
early October.
A whole Mental
Health Week program is being coordinated in Busselton-Geographe,
with many local stakeholders — and your club is sure to know of a
least one local group to talk with!
Australian
Rotary Health (ARH) has had a focus on mental health research for many
years, and now the prime focus is for mental health research for
pre-teen children (12 years old and under). Research tells us this is
the age bracket where mental health issues begin, so is a great
opportunity to work with youth groups and families.
Is your local
Men's Shed, P&C, youth group or sports club etc aware of the mental
health focus of ARH? If not, consider coordinating an ARH awareness
session with them. After all, the mental health and well-being of all
their members remains as an ongoing priority ... and of course a prime
reason why many exist, and why their people volunteer their time and
energy!
With annual
ARH Hat Days coming up (which are strongly supported by many
Rotary clubs across Australia), we suggest you invite your local Men's
Shed etc to become involved. It’s a great opportunity for community
collaboration for a common joint cause! And have some fun along the
way.
If your club
has not developed a community relationship with a Men's Shed, or
similar groups, this is the perfect time to step up and do so. The
mental health and wellbeing of every Australian is of vital importance.
For any
further collaborative ideas, support or information, please contact
your ARH WA team to assist.
