Representatives from Rotary International and the government of the Philippines

sign the agreement that starts Rotary International’s first polio project.

On 29 September 1979,

volunteers administered drops of oral polio vaccine.

to children at a health centre in Guadalupe Viejo, Makati, Philippines.

The event in metropolitan Manila was arranged.

and attended by Rotarians and delegates.

from the Philippine Ministry of Health

. When James L. Bomar Jr., then RI president,

put the first drops of vaccine into a child’s mouth,

 he ceremonially launched the Philippine.

poliomyelitis immunization effort.

Rotary’s first Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Gran

t project was underway.

Bomar and Enrique M. Garcia, the country’s minister of health,

had earlier signed an agreement committing Rotary International

and the government of the Philippines

to a joint multiyear effort to immunize.

about 6 million children against polio, at a cost of about $760,000

Headlines

Tuesday, 24 October is World Polio Day,

a chance to raise awareness and resources to help deliver.

a polio-free world in the very near term.

To mark the day, partners and stakeholders around the world

 are organizing events, bringing together

public and civil society in a common goal.

For all individual eradicators and stakeholders:

thank you for everything you do to

make the dream of a polio-free world a reality.

If you would like to make a personal, voluntary.

donation towards the effort,

we would invite you to contribute via Rotary International’s

 End Polio Now campaign,

a key partner alongside WHO and others in the

 Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

Each donation made to Rotary’s End Polio

 Now effort is matched 2:1

by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to maximise its effect.

As such, if you give US$10 to the effort, as an example,

the amount becomes US$30, and with that,

60 children will be vaccinated in the remaining affected countries.

Thank you for everything that you do!

We wish you a very successful World Polio Day!

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative would like to offer

heartfelt congratulations to Professor Rose Leke for receiving the

2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health,

 for her outstanding contributions

to advancing global health, including polio eradication.

. Professor Leke is the Chair of the

 Africa Regional Certification Commission

and member of the Global Commission

for Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication (GCC).

WIN a trailer full of accessories.

Help the Rotary Club of Collie to raise funds to support youth mental health.

Last year the Club's raffle and other donations helped raise $18,460.

which was distributed to several youth service organisations through a grants process.

These organisations have been able to use these funds to provide programs.

and support for youth mental health in Colle.

Youth Mental Health is such a prominent issue in our community.

The size of the problem is huge, with reportedly one third of Australian young people (under 25)

reporting high or very high levels of psychological distress with some young people in danger of harming themselves or others. We believe that addressing the problem early can help save lives.

Please purchase your tickets to donate to this valuable cause

and you could win this year's great prize.

Tickets are for sale in WA.

Tickets are priced at $5 each, 2 tickets for $10, 3 tickets for $15, 4 tickets for $20, 5 tickets for $25, 6 tickets for $30, 10 tickets for $50
