Fellowships amplify Ukrainian relief efforts |
In November 2021, a new chapter of the International Fellowships of Flying Rotarians was chartered in Lviv, Ukraine. Within months, war broke out with Russia and the new friendships became critical connections for support and supplies. Rotary’s global network has sent millions of dollars’ worth of relief and medical supplies to help the people of Ukraine. which bring together members who have a shared interest or hobby, have amplified the impact of these efforts. |
What started out as simply collecting socks for the homeless
this winter grew into something much more,
due to the wonderful contributions and generous donations
of our amazing local residents, as well as support from the
Working closely with the Perth City Homeless Group,
the club’s Homeless Working Group was able to provide,
not only over 300 pairs of socks for distribution but also managed
to put together 32 backpacks for men and women
for donation to the needy.
Each backpack carried a tag identifying that it was a donation
from the Rotary Club of Karrinyup.
Recently these were delivered for distribution by the
Perth City Homeless Support Group.
According to the Zero Project, in December 2021 there were 1,001
people known to be living homeless in Perth and Fremantle.
We
know that number to be increasing at an alarming rate.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice
Commissioner.
June Oscar AO is a proud Bunuba woman from the remote town
of Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
She is a strong advocate for Indigenous Australian languages,
social justice, women’s issues, and has worked tirelessly
to reduce Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
(FASD).
This is a free public event

on how we engage and connect with our members.

Rotary's 4-Way Test.
The annual schools' speaking competition featuring
the 4-Way Test is now under way.
The Club Heat for Year 10 students was held yesterday.
What a wonderful surprise we had at our meeting this morning,
when we were joined by Troy.
He was an Ambassadorial Scholar here about 20 years ago
when we first met him.
It was a delight to see him again -
even if for such a short time.
What amazing
connections we can make through Rotary programmes.

The club is in the process of extending our
community services shed
which houses many trailers from various clubs in Esperance.
We can’t wait to get started on the extensions
and sincerely thank Lotterywest for the grant.
Community Garden @ Perth Inner City Youth Services
(PICYS)
One of the local projects Rotary Club of West Perth
is involved in is the Community Garden @ PICYS.
RCWP Members will be volunteering their time to provide
a sausage sizzle for all busy bee volunteers,
work in the garden alongside the PICYS team
and young people, and help out with the retic too.
The garden is aimed at promoting mental health and wellbeing
by encouraging cross-generational and cross-cultural relationships
and support networks in the PICYS community.
