Australia Day this year was very
different.
- we were able to benefit from
the City of Stirling Citizenship ceremony
and their AUSPIRE awards.
We hosted most of the award winners - plus the
mayor and
all the City Councillors and two freemen of
the city.
This added a lot to our event, and I would
like to thank the mayor - Mark Irwin
and his executive assistant, Kathryn Redden
for all their help and support.
We had about 180 people attend, and the
caterers coped as well as they could.
We have a few ideas for next year to make
things more efficient.
Our speakers were - President
Chris who welcomed us to Scarborough Rotary,
Councillor Felicity Farrelly who welcomed us
to Scarborough
and Madi Smith (past Rotary
exchange student) who read the Australia Day poem.
Elder Len Yarran gave us a very meaningful
Welcome to Country.
Stuart Aubrey MLA, mayor Mark Irwin, & Len Yarran spoke
to the Australia Day theme –
Reflect – Respect – Celebrate,
all of them
made us think about this special day.
Andriy & Larissa Tatsiy from the Ukrainian
Community
told about the experiences of that Community
after arriving in Australia.
We also had 10 local community groups
and organisations represented.
as well as 15 members of the local Ukrainian
Community
. It was also great to catch up
with many of our Honorary members.
To all our members who were able to attend
- thank you for making it a great event.
My personal thanks go to Mitch
Whalan & Rob Paparde
for help with the PA, to Alan
& Tookta Bennett,
Hugh & Jean Frost, Peter Hoo, Rob & Dianne Collins,
Brian & Penny Richards,
Guy Lehmann - who helped out in many ways
during the morning.
Alex Hickman & Jean Frost kindly took many
photos
- and Kerry gave all the attendees their badges.
Thank you ALL.
