Stephanie A. Urchick is selected to be the

2024-25 president of Rotary International

By Ryan Hyland

Stephanie A. Urchick, of the Rotary Club of McMurray, Pennsylvania, USA,

is the selection of the Nominating Committee?

for President of Rotary International for 2024-25,

a decision that would make her only the second woman to hold that position.

She will be declared the president-nominee on 15 September.

if no challenging candidates have been suggested.

Regional Director's briefing on earthquake

in southern Türkiye and northern Syria

152nd Executive Board Meeting, January–February, 2023

7 February 2023 –

Let me again express my deepest condolences to the people of Syria.

As my colleague Dr Iman Shankiti noted,

we expect the death toll to increase in the coming days.

Our hearts and thoughts are with the families and loved ones.

of those whose lives were lost as a result of this tragic event.

Our priority now is to make sure that those who have been injured.

receive the lifesaving care they need, as soon as possible,

to prevent further loss of life and disability.

And that those who have lost their homes and livelihoods

are not exposed to further public health risks.

Next month marks almost 12 years since the conflict in Syria began.

Astonishingly, more people need humanitarian assistance in Syria.

today than at any time since the crisis began.

Those needs have soared further as a result following  earthquake.

It has added yet another layer of complexity.

to the many challenges already facing the Syrian people.

But despite facing multiple concurrent and compounding crises

 over recent years,

the international community has largely forgotten Syria.

Even as health and humanitarian needs increase,

funding continues to decrease.

It should not take a tragic event such as this crisis.

for us to turn our attention to Syria.

Colleagues,

Let us convey our respect and admiration to the dedicated Syrian

health workforce who are responding to yet another emergency.

Despite overwhelming demands and limited resources,

they remain as committed as always to saving lives.

WHO is there to support them,

as we employ an all-modalities approach to access those in need.

Experts from WHO’s regional trauma initiative have already deployed.

and our logistics hub in Dubai

is in ensuring critical supplies are delivered in a timely manner.

WHO emergency experts are effectively coordinating

 across multiple offices,

from Damascus and Aleppo to Gaziantep

and Ankara,

to our regional offices in Cairo and Copenhagen,

and our headquarters in Geneva.

the Organization’s 3 levels are coming together effectively to meet

the health needs of those impacted by this tragic event.

Tom, charter President of the Swan Rotaract Club ,

will facilitate a panel discussion about Club success stories

and how Rotary clubs can empower and

support younger members in our organisation.

The incredible panellists are:
✨ Raj, Co-President of the Rotaract Club of Perth
✨ Jordee, President of the Rotaract Club of Belmont
✨ Eeshwar, Vice Chair of Rotaract Australia

  • Imagine being pregnant and homeless.
  • Imagine having a baby and trying to find somewhere safe to sleep at night.
  • Imagine living with the fear of child removal
  •  because you have nowhere to live.

Women in our community are having to confront

these realities every day.

“How can this be happening in this day and age?”

 you might ask.

“Why isn’t this tragedy more widely known by us all?”

“How can our resource-rich state allow this to happen?”

 “It’s Dickensian”.

Unbelievable as it seems, it is occurring on our doorstep.

So, what can be done?

(Based now at the University of Notre Dame),

and leads its growing program of

innovative multidisciplinary research and evaluation.

When Lisa became aware of the acute but

often hidden vulnerability

of pregnant women who are homeless in WA,

 she couldn’t ignore it.

Come and hear more about this injustice,

and what needs to be done and how.

Lunenburg

by Norm Foster

directed by Jarrod Buttery

Harbour Theatre

March 2023

When Iris Oulette inherits a house

that she didn't  even know existed,

she and her close friend Natalie Whitaker

travel to the town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia,

to have a look at her new property.

What follows is a series of world-changing surprises,

 heart-warming personal transformations,

and a fall down funny romantic adventure.

The play is set over a summer weekend in beautiful Nova Scotia

 in Harbour Theatre's latest production

of Norm Foster’s Lunenburg, directed by Jarrod Buttery.

Written by Canada's most produced playwright,

 Norm Foster,

Lunenburg is a story about grief, secrets, acceptance,

and a ton of flirtation played out by an accomplished trio

 of Harbour Theatre’s favourite actors.

As we've come to expect from Norm Foster,

this play is another well written,

 intelligent, funny, and heart-warming comedy.

Like many of his shows, Lunenburg continues the foster tradition.

of taking stories that are recognizable as our own,

but turning them on their head to expose

a different angle of the familiar.

All proceeds to community projects supported by

the Rotary Club of Northbridge.

to ShelterBox for disaster relief in Turkey and Syria.

ShelterBox Australia delivers emergency aid and essentials that people need.

The emergency aid we supply comes in the form of ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits.

Our sturdy green ShelterBoxes contain family-sized tents specially designed.

to withstand the elements and provide people with temporary shelter.

until they are able to start the process of rebuilding a home.
