Building peace in a fractured land

In the western region of Galilee,

the Rotary Club of Jerusalem, Israel,

brings together 50 Jewish and Arab students from four schools

to talk about their similarities and differences.

 The peace education program,

designed and led by a former Rotary Peace Fellows,

is supported by a global grant from The Rotary Foundation.

The Jerusalem club has been focused on peace

since its charter in 1929.

It is just one example of how Rotary members

around the world are working to build peace.

Learn more about the Jerusalem club

and why

peace is a cornerstone of our mission .

Do you feel confident that you know all that is available to you in Rotary?

Rotary Leadership Institutes provide current information

on how to be as involved as you wish in Rotary.

There are so many opportunities available to you both for

your own personal and professional development

as well as how you can support your club

and communities, both near and far.

These Institutes are for two days but held on one day

 each on separate weekends,

we know your family and personal time is precious

so we are making it as easy as possible for you to attend.

There will be an Institute coming up very soon in October,

The trainers are experienced Rotarians and passionate

about sharing their experiences with you.

In Western Australia, we provide these Institutes at no cost to you,

 just your time and attention.

If you are in a position of leadership in your Club,

and have not attended one of these,

then this is a great opportunity for you to ensure you can support

A ShelterBox Response Team is in Pakistan working

to get emergency shelter aid to thousands of people

left with nowhere to live, following the devastating floods

. Our initial emergency response will aim to support

thousands of people in the KPK (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa)

 and Sindh provinces.

For our first project, we are working in partnership with

Islamic Relief Worldwide and Islamic Relief Pakistan

to distribute tents, water filters and carriers,

mosquito nets, and solar lights to thousands of people

 affected by the floods.

Once our aid is in-country, we’ll be delivering training

with our partners, on how to use our equipment

and erect tents so that this knowledge can be shared

 with the affected communities.

If you are one the generous supporters that have already donated,

please accept my sincere thanks on behalf of those people

that will receive essential aid in the coming days 😊.

Many thousands remain without basic shelter and clean water,

at risk from the elements and disease.

If you haven't donated yet, please consider making a gift today.

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative

is deeply saddened by the passing of

 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

 Her leadership, steadfastness and commitment

to service was exemplary throughout her life,

and made her a globally-respected moral voice

for some of the most marginalized people in our world.

We wish to express our deepest sympathy

to her family and of course to all the people

of the UK and indeed the Commonwealth.

The UK, Commonwealth and indeed

the Royal Family have long been a proud

and important supporter to the global eradication effort

, and none has arguably been a more committed

advocate than His Majesty King Charles III.

While still HRH Prince of Wales, Charles III

 engaged personally in this effort,

adding his voice and commitment to ensuring children

around the world are fully protected

from lifelong polio paralysis.

In October 2003 in India, HRH Prince Charles

participated in Polio National Immunization Days,

observing the vaccination of children in villages

on the outskirts of New Delhi.

In 2018, at the Commonwealth Leaders Summit,

HRH Prince Charles highlighted the polio programme

as an example of successful, joint action

 against disease,

noting that hundreds of millions of children

 have benefitted from polio vaccination

thanks to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

In 2013, during another visit to India,

 he acknowledged Rotary’s tremendous efforts

 in eradicating polio in India,

as he accepted and posed with a

Rotary ‘End Polio Now’ scarf for media photographers.

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative would

like to extend our very best wishes

to His Majesty King Charles III,

for a long and successful reign.

Under his leadership, and indeed the UK

 and the Commonwealth’s,

the effort to eradicate polio will continue

unabated until our common goal of achieving

a lasting world free of all forms of poliovirus

 is fully achieved.

👑Our Club is 50+ years old and, as some of you may know,

the Rotary Club of Batavia Coast holds a few fascinating traditions

 as part of our gatherings/meeting.

One of which is a “loyal toast”.

👑Out of interest, this is a salute given to the sovereign monarch

or head of state of the country in which a formal gathering is being given,

or by expatriates of that country,

whether or not the particular head of state is present.

It is usually a matter of protocol at state and military occasions,

and a display of patriotic sentiment at civilian events.

The toast is usually initiated and recited by the host before

 being repeated by the assembled guests in unison;

the composition varying between regions and types of gathering.

👑With the passing of Queen Elizabeth the Second,

an historic reign and a long life devoted to duty

, family, faith and service that has come to an end,

we were able to gift our framed official portrait of the Queen

to our dear Peter C on this historic day.

Rotary Club of Karrinyup 2021-2022 President Peter

 presented the prestigious President's Award

for best club person of the year to Trish

for her unstinting efforts with the Stirling Farmers Market.

s gala changeover event in June but was unable to attend

What a busy meeting at the Rotary Club of Karrinyup this week!

A chance meeting at the Stirling Farmers Market

drew one overseas visitor,

while our guest speaker Len Yarran attracted many more.
