When Rotary was first introduced into Australia, it was operated by Commissioners.
Professor W. Osborne was appointed Commissioner for Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
The first Australian Clubs were the Melbourne Club (on 21st April 1921)
and the Sydney Club (on 7th May 1921).
In 1926 Perth was visited by Professor W. Osborne.
Twenty five leading citizens of Perth were invited to be inaugural members
and the first Rotary Club of Perth luncheon was held on 1st September 1926.
The founding President was Sir William Lathlain, a major Retailer in Perth
and Mayor of Perth from 1919–1923.
In September 1927 the 17 Clubs in Australia had become District 65
with Fred Birks of the Rotary Club of Sydney as the first District Governor.
In 1938, Western Australia, South Australia
and the western half of Victoria formed District 64 with 23 clubs.
In 1949, District 64 was renumbered and became District 33.
In 1951, Western Australia had 12 clubs and became a separate District, numbered 34.
In 1957 Western Australia was renumbered again and became District 245.
In 1970 Western Australia divided into 2 Districts, 245 and 246.
In 1977, all districts were renumbered with the 9 in place of the 2 prefix.
In 1985, Western Australia formed a third District, numbered 947.
In 1991, all districts re-numbered by adding a nought to their number;
thus Australian districts are numbered 9450, 9460, 9470,
and so on.
Currently there are
34 clubs in D9450
36 clubs in D9460
34 clubs in D9470

Thanks go to those 12 members who made it to the second Busy Bee
at our KEMH memorial garden, last Saturday June 12th.
There was a general tidy up and the removal of rubbish.
The roof is on the storeroom and now the reticulation can be set to work
The major task for us now is the wrought iron fencing,
although there is still 12 cubic metres of soil to be put in the gardens.
The good news is that the busy bee was finished by 10.30am
and the bad news is that for those who left the scene at that time
missed out on the morning tea that was unexpectedly produced
by the senior social worker at the hospital.
Some have unkindly remarked that the worker in the orange outfit
in the above photo has come straight from Guantanomo Bay

The Bowel Scan project for the Month of March concluded mid April and again
was hugely successful with over 155 Pharmacies involved in all three Districts.
This is the third year we have been doing this project
and this followed on the success that NSW Rotary clubs
have had with this project over some 25 years.
The public is increasingly getting behind it and all pharmacies welcome
the approach from all Rotary Clubs.
Those clubs who were not in this year , we welcome them in for next year.
Full report on the numbers sold, kits sent for diagnosis
and the number of positives will be made available after our 3 district meeting on 4th June,

Rotary Club of Heirisson
CHRISTMAS in July AT HEIRISSON
Once again Heirisson concentrated it’s Christmas attention on the Salvation Army0
who were represented at our meeting by Jenny Lyden.
Jenny gratefully accepted our contribution of food hamper items,
Christmas gifts plus the $750 cash raised from the Club raffle over the previous weeks.
Well done Ash Braden in organising all of these collections.
Jenny made a short speech to the Club.Jenny was very glad to be back at Heirisson.
She visited us last year and this year it is her only public appearance.
Jenny gave a picture of what Christmas means to the Salvation Army.
• It means hard work, long hours, short tempers and tears
as there are a lot of people in need at this time of year.
• It means worship
• It means visiting people who would not otherwise haveany other people contact.
• It means hearing people say “ what would we dowithout the Salvo’s”.
The Salvation Army strive to make Christmas as happy as possible for as many people as possible and changing peoples lives.
Jenny talked about an 82 year old man “Richard” who had been living in disgraceful conditions—exposed to the elements with very little dignity.
The Salvo’s secured new accommodation for him
and were able to improve his circumstances to such a degree
that he is now putting on weight.
In closing, Jenny acknowledged the support from Heirisson in helping others.

Rotary Club of Mundaring

Now in its third year, the Mundaring Sunday Markets
are proving popular with local folk as well as people outside the shire
interested in what we have to offer
and the many attractions that the Mundaring Shire has to offer.
Featuring between 80 to over 100 stalls of varying merchandise
from local produce stalls of fruits and vegies
to a new hat or the latest garden implement or even an electric bicycle!
Established in 2006 with the help of the Mundaring Shire
the markets provide a focal point for the local community
and also attract visitors to Mundaring from all over the metropolitan area.
The success of the Mundaring Sunday Markets
enables The Rotary Club of Mundaring Inc,
to assist in funding many local community projects
and individuals seeking support for worthwhile causes.
In 2008 the Rotary Club funded over 20 local projects to the tune of $30,000.
Most of those funds were raised through the Mundaring Sunday Markets .

Win $2,500 for your Rotary club

Why is ROMAC making this remarkable offer to you?
The global financial crisis is affecting many Rotary clubs
which, sadly, will need to cut down on their donations.
Ironically, ROMAC's medical costs are increasing as we save more children's lives -
last year we proudly saved the lives of 47 underprivileged children.
ROMAC, a program of the Rotary Districts of Australia and New Zealand,
is privileged to have the support of so many Rotarians
without whom we simply could not continue this humanitarian program.
ROMAC is run by volunteer Rotarians,
and community spirited hospitals dramatically reduce costs.
Compassionate surgeons donate their expertise and their experience helps our kids.
Their generosity significantly increases the value of every dollar donated.
And the money stays right here in our country!
If every Rotary Club donated $1,000 it would help ROMAC
to continue saving the lives of these underprivileged and deserving children.
Desperate times need desperate measures -
we are aware we need to encourage you to donate.
To win a $2,500 donation to your club all you have to do
is donate a minimum of $1,000 to ROMAC, to be received no later than 1st Sept 2009.
Each $1,000 earns one entry,
so if you donate $3,000 you get three chances to win $2,500.
Cheques, payable to ROMAC, should be mailed to:
