Rotary Club of Karrinyup

Instead of our regular meeting, this week a number of our members,
including our new inbound Rotary Youth Exchange student, Felix
attended the Lift the Lid on Mental Illness Forum at the UWA Club.
This was an informative and eye opening session
on how 4-17 year olds are coping in today’s world
with 1 in 7 young people suffering from a mental health disorder.
Afterwards all had the opportunity to chat about the forum
 in an informal setting.
A group of our members is seen below enjoying a chat.
For more information please visit

RC Karrinyup has enjoyed a fabulous partnership
with Specsavers Karrinyup
over the past year or so.
One of our members, Klaus, is in regular contact
and periodically collects frames that are no longer required
(many of them in perfect condition).
These are then passed on to Rotary District 9455 clubs
Global Hands Charity started distributing glasses two years ago
in Cambodia, and last year in Sri Lanka.
The glasses are collected via clubs before being graded, sorted, cleaned
and repaired as necessary by inmates at the prisons.
Then a team of nurses, optometrists, and optometry students
take them overseas for distribution.

Rotary Club of Attadale

Seven years ago Jan Pedersen decided she was concerned
about children having difficulty with their reading
and recognized that the best way to teach children at an early age
was for someone to go in and help them.
She spread the word in the South West of Western Australia
and later in the Metropolitan area.
Fast Forward 'Hands Up 4 Kids' is a community based,
student assistance program, for primary schools to make
a tangible contribution towards improved reading abilities
for students selected as needing this help.

Western Australia

In case you need a little reminder of how beautiful Shell Beach
at Australia's Coral Coast is, here's one snapped by mkz.imagery (IG).
This incredible spot is tucked away in the pristine Shark Bay
. It might not look like it from this photo, but that's not sand you see!
This special beach is actually made up of billions of tiny shells
stretching for more than 100 kilometres and between seven and ten metres deep.
