and Deb Atkins The Rotary Clubs from Mandurah Districts and Pinjarra joined at the Mandurah Country
Club on 8th of August to welcome Rotary W.A . District Governor Ineke Oliver and husband Geoff to a combined meeting. On this occasion Mandurah Districts Past President Deb Atkins, as Chair of the Peel Sail
into Life Committee, announced recognition would be
made to four people. who had made sustaining
contributions to this wonderful project. D.G. Ineke Oliver, current Club Presidents Michael Boyd (Mandurah Districts)
and Miles Hewett (Pinjarra) presented. Paul Harris Fellow Recognitions to- from the Rotary Club of
Mandurah Districts: Phil Brown, and Merice Brown, and from the Rotary Club of
Pinjarra: Rob Davis, and Beth Aitken.
     The polio eradication efforts in Pakistan and Afghanistan are made more difficult
by mountainous terrain. Afghanistan and Pakistan the two countries in which polio is still
endemic. are closer than they have ever been to
eradicating wild poliovirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) said last month . It’s a surprising turn given that the
eradication effort had been criticized. as floundering as recently as last year. With a small number of cases and limited
geographical spread of the virus, scientists agree that the two nation s
stand a real chance of stopping transmission. of wild poliovirus this year, but only if the eradication programmes in
these countries. can overcome persistent social and
political challenges. Wiping
out wild poliovirus, of which there are three strains, termed serotypes 1, 2
and 3, has been the goal of global eradication efforts. since they began in 1988. Types 2 and 3 were successfully eradicated in
2015 and 2019. ,
respectively, but type 1 continues to circulate in Afghanistan and Pakistan 12 years after India quashed all forms of the
wild virus,
and 7 years after Africa did the same.
  Another great night in the
country with committed Rotarians when the Rotary Club of Narrogin and the Rotary Club
of Wagin came
together. Beautiful setting, great food
and terrific company as we talked. about creating more hope in the world!

celebrated our 25th anniversary. As charter
members, Denise, and Tom welcomed
past members and office bearers, Past District Governors and Assistant Governors, Hugh Jones
MLA, Michelle Rich our Shire President and Maxine
Spencer the Probus Club President and friends and family to the Byford &
Districts Country Club. Ray and
staff looked after us and we thank them very much. 25 years of
Rotary service is a great milestone to celebrate. We inducted
2 new members. and reminisced about all the good things we have
achieved. Thank you to
our community for supporting us along the way.        Over the past twelve months the Rotary Club of
North Perth and the
Rotary Club of Wyndham Harbour in Victoria have been collaborating in providing a
suitable charity outlet. for
clothing, for donation, that is
new but have some slight blemishes to them.
The clothing comes from a Fashion company
called Fashion Biz. Fashion
Biz have offices and warehouses throughout Australia. and also in New Zealand, Canada, and USA. They
donate these clothes as they are unsaleable to retail outlets.
Our club was contacted from a Rotarian. at the
Wyndham Harbour Club in Victoria to see
if we could assist. We
found a charity that would accept these clothes. which was The Margaret Court Community Outreach Centre in Osborne Park.
Since we started our association with Wyndham Harbour Rotary Club some twelve months ago, we have 10 pallets worth of clothing. We
arranged for pickup of three more pallets of these clothes. by the
Margaret Court Community Outreach Centre last week.
They were very grateful for and will be put to good use for the people. that
the Outreach Centre supports. A great
result for two clubs working in
providing assistance. to
those in need in the community   Not long left to go now. If you haven't already donated towards this

Rotary Club of Byford, and Districts and others have been supporting
LandcareSJ and RU OK at their planting day in Jarrahdale. With a focus on mental health and wellbeing, the team celebrates each other,
communing with nature and planting. the next generation of trees and

  Over the past 12 years, this event has raised
community funds over $150,000, with all
returned to local community groups in need and
supporting local school students develop their leadership skills.

   June 2016       The club meeting for 16th August 2023 at Moerlina School was our first live-streamed
meeting for this Rotary year! DG Ineke Oliver visited our
club to present President Fiona with our Citation for
2022/23.      Gaspard, our French Rotary
Exchange Student, we are host sharing, with the
Rotary Club of Kojonup, with Linda Bilney, Past
President of the Rotary Club of Kojonup Gaspard has been in WA for
4 weeks. He has given his presentation to Kojonup. Is playing tennis & squash. Went to Albany with the Argentine Exchange student in Mt
Barker. Will be going on a Sydney
& Canberra trip. and local MP Ric Wilson, will give Gas a tour
of Parliament.   Murilo went flying today. thank you to Peter Teakle
  4WTSC - a great Rotary Youth
project! Runner-up Certificate presented. at Churchlands Primary School Assembly.   It was great to hear what Amelia
had to say about her. attendance at the RYPEN camp in May. The benefits of attending RYPEN
are enormous and attending. does make a difference in the
attendees’ lives. We are proud of your achievements Amelia. Thank you, Alison (Chaplain),
for nominating Amelia.   We are very proud to be a
sponsor of this young man. Hayden McDonald will be flying
solo around Australia. in a few weeks to bring awareness about
Autism. Living with Autism himself,
Hayden is a wonderful example. of what can be possible with

to Betty Bodo, who is President Elect of the Rotary
Club of Kiserian in Kenya. . Betty came to Australia. for the Rotary International Convention
held in Melbourne. and has been here ever since. During this time, she has visited a number of
Rotary clubs and has participated in a range of Rotary
events, including the Cluster Meeting at Perth
Rotary last week. Her visit to Karrinyup
Rotary is her last before she leaves. Betty told us a little about her club,
which has been very active. but has recently suffered from member loss and
as of June 2023 is down to only ten hard working members, although there are immediate plans to induct
five more.
  We’ve been busy this weekend
facilitating. and inspiring generosity within
the community On Saturday we helped at Broken Crayons Still Colour Foundation busy bee This morning we had our Agile
Planning Sprint to plan our upcoming projects in partnership with social enterprises such as
Artjam. As always, we had a lot of fun being able
to connect and give back - keep an eye on our upcoming
events    Thank you to everyone who helped
make. our Ballajura Community Fair a great success. The Ballajura Lions Club and
Rotary Club of Ballajura Malaga are proud of the work, we do for
the community, and want to thank you all for
supporting us. We had our biggest event so far
with nearly 4,000 people. through the gates to visit almost 100
stallholders. The weather was perfect, and the
entertainment was great.
    This weekend the Wyalkatchem Rotary Club, along with some very welcome friends, cooked bacon, and eggs burgers for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and a sausage sizzle lunch on Saturday. It was an exhausting but
rewarding weekend, it’s always interesting to meet new people and learn about a new
experience.          Soroptimist International South Perth Last Sunday, we were joined by
the Rotary Clubs of Como and Millpoint and family and friends in a community clean-up
along a section of the South
Perth foreshore. Afterwards, we enjoyed a barbie cooked. for us by Soroptimister Peter. No photos of us actually doing the emu bob, but plenty of us enjoying
ourselves.
      The Rotary Club of Karrinyup Vocational
Service team funded two overlockers for use by students
at Alta-1 Kimberley College. Together with thread and fabric donated by
friends, they arrived safely to the delight of teacher
Anita and the students.   Two more play tubs these ones to support the LEGO at Alkimos Primary
