Last week I posed the question

to see if anybody knew what this Rotary Acronymn was

It is Rotarians For Fighting Aids

Rotarians For Fighting AIDS, Inc. was founded by Marion Bunch

(Rotary Club of Dunwoody, GA, USA),

a Rotarian who lost her child to AIDS in 1993.

With the approval of Rotary International’s Board in 2003,

RFFA became the first Rotarian Action Group.
At the request of PRIP Bhichai Rattakul (Thailand) to “help the victims of AIDS,

especially the children, RFFA launched the first project.

The ANCHOR (Africa Network for Children Orphaned and At Risk)

partnership was created including RFFA, HOPE Worldwide,

The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation and Emory University’s School of Public Health.

In four years, ANCHOR has provided care

and support for 91,000 vulnerable children in Africa

through “Orphan Rescue” and “Kidz’s Clubs.”
In 2008 at the invitation of the United States Government,

Rotarians For Fighting AIDS, Inc. joined American business and entertainment giants

in a bold new initiative directed toward providing a vision of Hope

and behavior change creating an AIDS free world.

This “HIV Free Generation” program’s pilot project launched in December, 2008,

in Nairobi, Kenya with program promoting “cool” behaviors

that prevent the transmission of HIV among youth.

As a precursor to the launch, RFFA and Rotary Clubs

and Districts in Nairobi, Georgia USA and Pennsylvania USA

conducted the largest Medical Mission in Rotary history.

Seventy-two medical, dental and optical professionals

and volunteers treated more than 10,000 children and youth

in one ten-day period at three sites in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

In 2009, Rotarians, along with education and health care professionals,

conduct programs assisting HIV/AIDS orphans in seven African countries.
