The Dr Ken Collins Address has been a highlight of the Rotary year

for Western AustralianRotarians for the past twelve years.

The purpose of the Address is to provide a venue for
International speakers to update Western Australian Rotarians

and their partners aboutour Rotary charity

– The Rotary Foundation –

and to give insights into the future of theFoundation and Rotary in general.

The Address has always attracted a very high profile
speaker from either The Rotary Foundation or Rotary International.
This year, 2010, is no exception,

as Rotary International President (RIP) RayKlinginsmith

will be the keynote speaker for the thirteenth Annual

Dr Ken Collins Address on Monday, 29th November 2010.
Ray Klinginsmith, an attorney, served as general counsel,

professor ofbusiness administration,

and dean of administration for Truman StateUniversity

(formerly Northeast Missouri State University)

for more than 20 years.

The President of the Chariton Valley Association for
Handicapped Citizens since its inception in 1982,

Ray received the 1988 Parent/Caretaker Award from the

Missouri Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities.
Ray is an alumnus of The Rotary Foundation's Ambassadorial
Scholarships program, which took him to South Africa in 1961.

He has served as RI Director, RI Board Executive Committee Chair,
Foundation Trustee and Vice Chair, Future Vision Committee Member,
Council on Legislation Chair, and 2008 Los Angeles Convention
Committee Chair.

A Major Donor, he is a recipient of the Foundation's
Distinguished Service Award.

awarded a TRF Ambassadorial Scholarship in 1988

to obtain a Bachelor of Nursing Science Degree in Adelaide.
Following this she received a scholarship from AusAID to do her Masters.

On completion of this she served as CEO of Mt Hagen Hospital,

university lecturer in Goroka, consultant to AusAID,

CEO of Ltyentye Apurte Aboriginal Health Service in Central Australia

before settling in Cairns.

Sunday 17 October 2010

and the seminar ends at 1.00 pm to make it more accessible

for Rotarians from regional areas.

MEDIA – UNMIXING OUR MESSAGE !

Whenever we get a group of Rotarians talking about public relations,

someone will complain that one of the biggest problems

is the refusal of the media to report on Rotary’s good works.
Certainly that is how it seems from our side of the fence ..

. it is often difficult to get our message across.
However, we may be able to do much better

if we could understand how the media operates.
That’s the underlying theme of a special multi-district seminar,

Promotion and Marketing of Rotary,

being held in Perth on Sunday, 17 October.
This seminar, coordinated by the District 9455 and 9465

public relations committees will take a fresh look at how the media

can be used to inform the public – and prospective new members.

A keynote speaker and people who work in media will make presentations.
The central feature of the seminar will be an interactive workshop

moderated by professional journalists that will demonstrate to Rotarians how

and why the media makes its decisions on what is and what is not news.
Understanding how the media operates is the key

to getting our news in print or on the air.
Rotary Down Under, our own magazine, will be there too,

and there will be presentations on advertising, merchandise

and promotional aids as well as club public relations success stories.
Don’t be put off by the public relations tag –

it’s just what Rotary calls it.
This seminar is not just for PR officers,

but all Club officers and members who are keen to develop

and enhance the Promotion and Marketing of Rotary.
After all, every Rotarian is responsible for Rotary’s public relations.

Rotary Club of Mount Barker

Two of Rotary Mount Barker’s projects:

· Tree planting – roadside restoration.

We plant the seeds at the nursery, cultivate the seedlings

and then plant them where required by our contractor –

usually Main Roads or the Shire.

In this case we’re on the side of Porongurup Rd

– photo 2 (kneeling) President Fred Mentha, (hoeing) Secretary Sue,

· Rest Bay – we keep this maintained as a well-utilised parking place

for tourists and locals at the northern end of town.

The day these photos were taken was cold wet and miserable.

I think the blue sky was just an optical illusion.

Night and was favourably impressed with their achievements.

and of Used Postage Stamps for Oxfam.

The Rotary Club of Mosman Park held its annual Seniors Concert

on Sunday, August 29, at Camelot in Mosman Park.

Nearly 140 local Seniors enjoyed the sounds of “June Smith and the Apple Band”

a well known local jazz band.

The guests were then treated to Tea by the Rotarians.
Rotary is an international service organization that exists to promote service,

good will and friendship around the world.

The Rotary Motto is “Service Above Self” and this hands-on project

is a favorite among many of the club members.

“It’s one of the nicest things we do for our community,”

Alf Snell, Past District Governor, said,

“You get the feel that you’re really providing a nice afternoon

for some “real people” in our community,

and they seem to appreciate that someone is doing something nice for them.”
Keith Hartz, Mosman Park Rotary President

, said this is one of the biggest years ever and the weather was perfect.

Approximately 21 Rotarians and partners assisted in the set up,

transportation, provision of tea and clean up.

President Keith also acknowledged Mossi Arts for the use of their venue

and the Mosman Park Council for their financial assistance for the 15th year.
The Rotary Club of Mosman Park meets on Monday evenings

at the Mosman Park Golf Club

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Robinson Crusoe fell desperately ill.

Just before dropping into a coma,

he called for his man Friday to help him.

Friday, not knowing what else to do,

went outside of Crusoe's tent and danced around

and prayed for God to come and help his master.

Shortly afterwards, Crusoe awoke from his coma

and groggily perceived a shape at the foot of his bed.

In panic, he imagined that the angel of death had come to get him.

Then his the shape came into focus,

and he cried with relief,

"Thank God! It's Friday!"
