Well now Mike Brady has joined forces with Rotary Down Under nd Australia's Rotary International Public Image Group Zone Coordinator Dick Garner
to record a brand new theme for Rotary called That's Rotary Today.
It's a catchy tune that makes the perfect ice-breaker for the start of any Rotary club or District event.
A DVD using images collected by Rotary Down Under
and compiled by Past President Ted Sheedy, of the Rotary Club of North Sydney Sunrise

Celebrate Rotary in New Orleans!
Good Food, Good Music, and Good Times are what you’ll find when you visit New Orleans.
It’s a place where people know how to enjoy life at events like Mardi Gras,
the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival,
and the New Orleans Wine and Food Festival (NOWFE).
It’s a place where people are passionate about food and how it’s prepared,
and where you go to get the best meal.
It’s a place like no other in the United States.
This cosmopolitan culture is a stew of African, Spanish, French, Irish, Italian,
German, Caribbean, Native American ingredients.
We know that New Orleans is a great place, but why attend an RI Convention in New Orleans?
1) To hear inspiring speakers such as Bill Gates talk about polio
and The Rotary Foundation on Tuesday afternoon, 24 May, in the plenary session
that will take place from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
(Please note that the convention program will be reversed that day:
workshops will be in the morning and the plenary session will be in the afternoon)
2) To volunteer for projects (some sponsored by Rotary clubs)
through the convention bureau voluntourism listing and the HOC website.
3) To learn about Rotary’s role in the recovery of New Orleans
and the Gulf Coast during the Monday, 23 May plenary session.
4) To improve your Rotary skill set and knowledge during the many workshops being offered.
5) To savour the best of New Orleans food and music New Orleans
through HOC events planned by local Rotarians.
Tickets are still available for tours and events such as the Sounds of the South concert
where you can hear jazz (Dr. Michael White), the Treme Brass Band, zydeco, and more.
6) To connect with old friends and to make new ones at the House of Friendship and luncheons.
Before the celebration comes the registration!
Although you can register online until 6 May,
after 31 March the registration fee will increase
and you will only be able to buy luncheon tickets on-site.

Siemens Science Experience = Special Presentation
Pam Best introduced Donna Brigden and Students from Clarkson Community High School,
Jessica,Emily, Gemma, Samantha, Daniel and Brandon who attended the Siemens Science Experience,
who each gave a short presentation of their experience noting thanks
to the Rotary Club of West Perth for
giving them the opportunity and experience.
Their experiences included helping them in considering their careers, learning about Neutrons,
Chemistry, Fossils, Nutrition, Rockets, DNA, Internet Dangers, Blood Pressure,
preparing for Surgery, use of magnets to make motors run and Flexibility Tests amongst others.
They also sat in on Seminars including ‘Life as a Marine Biologist’
and a practicle demonstration of
rotting beef in containers which had a very distinctive smell !!.
The final group talk was a lady from ECU.
At the end of the course they were all presented with certificates

and once again they thanked their
coordinator Donna, Pam Best and Marcus Oates from Siemens
for giving them the opportunity to

Guest for the evening was Craig Callaghan and the Yulebrook football academy
The original Aboriginal football academy started under Gerard Neesham at Clontarf.
There are now 38 academy’s in Western Australia
and more in all the other mainland states and territories
The Yule Brook Academy is located at the old Maddington high schools
and has 44 students in years eight, nine and ten
Sport is used as the incentive to gain education and other life schools
Some 26 of the 44 student have over 90% attendance records
50% of the student are outside the school zone and so have to make the effort to get there
The student have to apply and, if accepted, undertake the same program
as they would have at Clontarf
A number of student have already completed the program
and gone on to higher education and University
Industry, particularly the mining industry strongly supports the concept
and there are no shortage of employment opportunities
The hands on approach is intensive with a staff ratio of approximately one staffer to ten students
– but the evidence speaks for itself –
and the program is attracting students in all states
