South Perth based Mill Point Rotary Club are embarking on a really big fundraising project.
They are attempting to reignite some spark into the heart of Perth
and have ambitiously planned the first annual BHP Billiton Ramble for October 9th.
Described as a cross between the ‘Amazing Race’ and a treasure hunt,
the Ramble is expecting to see thousands of competitors
hit the streets of Perth in the name of fun and charity.
More about brains than brawn, teams will use foot power
and public transport to uncover hidden checkpoints at iconic landmarks
and quirky locations across the city where they’ll solve puzzles and challenges.
The event is accessible to everyone and will have a wheel chair-friendly course.
Designed to attract families, friends, university students and corporations,
it’s going to be a big day. Funds raised will benefit Australian Rotary Health and Telethon.
The BHP Billiton Ramble will begin from Forrest Place in the centre of Perth on October 9th.
Rotary Clubs of Western Australia are encouraged to help spread the word
about this terrific event as well as to join in the fun
and enter a team at www.rotaryramble.com
.

Rotary Club of Gosnells
Some time ago a very generous Greyhound trainer and his wife, Barry and Val McPherson,
donated a young unnamed greyhound to the Rotary Club of Gosnells
 and the Amanda Young Foundation.
The young dog was named “Black Lightning”,
after a competition was run in local Primary Schools.
Unfortunately, “Monty” as he was affectionately known in the kennels,
didnt want to be a racing Greyhound he just wanted to run about having lots of fun.
He was retired.
True to their word, the McPhersons donated another dog -
this time a girl dog named Mighty Helpful.
Well she's done us proud in winning her first race at only her second attempt
in Mandurah on Tuesday August 2.
She did finish fourth at her first race start after receiving quite a few bumps during the race
and we all thought that she could improve on that run.
Let's hope that Mighty Helpful can be mighty helpful in winning
some stake monies for both the Rotary Club and the Amanda Young Foundation.
Whatever she does we will all enjoy many more thrills seeing her run
and we will be eternally grateful to Barry and Val.

The Rotary Club of West Perth should be very proud of being responsible
for the Bali Eye Clinic which began in 1988.
John Hollingshead began the clinic when he discovered
there was a real need for this as approximately
out of the 4 million Balinese population 5-10% have eye problems.
John Hollingshead after coming back from Bali approached Rotary International.
It was going to cost $8,000 to send medical equipment over to Bali however,

On a Lighter note

A bit of culture for you this week
Enjoy

--------------------

I dreamed I was drafted into the army, which at age forty, was something of a surprise.
My drill sergeant at basic training was a big, mean tough career Army woman named Tina.
While climbing ropes I fell and broke my leg, but -- due to army regulations
-- I was required to report to the infirmary without assistance.
As I was painfully limping away dragging a broken leg,
my Drill Sergeant became upset at the situation and nearly broke down.
I turned back towards her and said, "Don't cry for me, Sergeant Tina!"

Three men, Mr. White, Mr. Brown and Mr. Green,
were in the habit of meeting in a local doughnut shop every morning for coffee and doughnuts.
One morning as they were sitting at their usual table, Mr. White remarked
, "Hey, will you look at that. We're each wearing a colored baseball cap today."
One white cap, one brown cap, and one green cap.
But interestingly, no one was wearing a cap of the color that matches his name.
At this, the guy wearing the green cap says,
"Oh you stup', that doesn't mean anything, it's just coincidence.
Shut up and eat your doughnut."
The question is:
What color cap is each man wearing?
At first it doesn't seem like it,
but you have all the information you need to solve the puzzler

if you can't work it out email me, and I will give you the answer

A lot of times it's difficult to get that "perfect balance" between usability and appearance. I must say you've done a
very good job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very fast for me
