At the club meeting of December 6th Australian Rotary Health
presented Past District Governor Fred Marsh with Life Membership of the Fund
Pictured above  with Fred are Current Chairman of the Board Terry Grant
 and Board Director Phil Cordery

Fred was appointed as a Director in November 1994
and served a full six year term - until November 2000.
He followed Ken Collins and was eventually replaced by John Ranieri.
Fred had a very hands on approach to clubs –
visiting them regularly and advising them the level of their donations
what how much more was needed to reach the next level.
It was a very effective promotional activity
and during Fred’s time on the board, donation levels
in Western Australia were extremely high.
The methods used by Fred to obtain donations to ARH
has been copied and is now in use around Australia.
It is also included in training manuals for the ARH District Representatives.
Over the past few years, PDG Fred has also served in the role of District Representative

  • Moved to Harvey and was President of Harvey Rotary Club in 1971-1972
  • Transferred to Carine High School as principal in 1972 and joined Scarborough Rotary Club in 1973
  • Was District Governor in 1988-1989 (Was then District 945 I think)
  • In his year as District Governor Fred introduced the "Four Way Test Speaking competition into schools and Rotary
  • Received a Paul Harris Fellowship in June 1987 and has since received three sapphires
  • For most of his Rotary years has had 100% attendance
In July this year Fred became an 85'er

Fremantle, Cockburn, Kwinana and Fremantle Port Clubs
joined together at Kwinana club rooms for the local district final
of the 4 Way Test Speech last Monday night.
Year 10 contestants came from Hamilton High and CBC Fremantle.
The contestants were asked to speak on Rotary’s test on
the things we think, say or do-
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Pictured with the contestants are President Jan Mason from Fremantle Rotary
and the presidents of the three other clubs involved.

After becoming a member of Bentley-Curtin Rotary earlier this year,
I learned about Peter Snell’s Water Project in the Lautem District of Timor Lestè
and that he was travelling there in September, as I was.

After learning about my projects,
he offered to assess the area of Ailalec (a small, remote village in Timor Lestè)
with the view to installing a water pump.

Because I was already planning to go to Ailalec this year,
I gratefully accepted the opportunity to accompany them.
I also knew how far villagers of Ailalec had to travel to source water,
so I knew how helpful a well would be.

Peter was also prepared to organize transport of the considerable volume
of materials that I had collected,
some of which had been donated, for Ailalec.
The Rotary Container project proved to be extremely beneficial.
Although I knew work had clearly been carried out to improve road conditions,
it was not an easy journey into Ailalec.
There were a few obstacles that slowed us down,
but we made it, however this severly limited our time in the village.
In 1942/3 Ailalec was the headquarters for Australian Commandos
based in East Timor during WW2.
The villagers sheltered and assisted our soldiers, often at great risk.
Strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect were formed.

What could be more creative than holding a polio immunization camp at a zoo?
That’s what Rotarians and Rotaractors in Lahore Green City,
 Punjab, Pakistan did recently
. More than 500 children were vaccinated in front of the elephant compound at the Lahore Zoo.
 “Parents appreciated the novel idea,
and the club has decided to have frequent camps there to
cover the maximum children from various areas and of all classes,”
says Khaula Shaheen Inam,
president of the Rotary Club of Lahore Green City.

Very clever ...slieght of hand

Nine-year-old Joey, was asked by his mother
what he had learned in Sunday school.

"Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God
sent Moses behind enemy lines
on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
When he got to the Red Sea,
he had his army build a pontoon bridge
and all the people walked across safely.
Then, he radioed headquarters for reinforcements.
They sent bombers to blow up the bridge
and all the Israelites were saved."

"Now, Joey,
is that really what your teacher taught you?"
his mother asked.

"Well, no, Mom.
But, if I told it the way the teacher did,
you'd never believe it!"

  33. Hi!
I'd need to concur with Dane, specifically with #10. Like a physician, I wouldn't advocate skipping breakfast or fasting till midday.
There happen to be several studies released in healthcare literature demonstrating the advantages of eating a wholesome
and balanced breakfast and consuming much more regular, smaller sized foods.
Carrying out so keeps your blood sugar a lot more stable and decreases the probability of crashing (energy-wise) later on within the day.
Operating out in the early morning is excellent, but it is essential to provide the body with the nutrition it needs
to refuel in the function out and begin the day,
