In more than 34,000 clubs worldwide,
Rotarians volunteer in communities at home
and abroad to support education and job training, provide clean water, combat hunger,
improve health and sanitation, and eradicate polio.

Helping bring dignity to polio survivors

Past RI presidents Rajendra K. Saboo, left,
and Jonathan Majiyagbe during a medical mission
that provided corrective surgeries to 400 children crippled by polio in Nigeria.

Staff members at the hospital in Keffi,
where some of the surgeries were performed in Nigeria,
make the "This Close" gesture in front of a sign about the medical mission.
Nigeria, along with Pakistan and Afghanistan,
are the only three countries where polio remains endemic

Polio victims crawl along the street to reach the outpatient facility.
The surgeries can help some of them walk again.

SHAKESPEARE'S BEES

John the beekeeper was rather sadistic.
He made life miserable for everyone around him with his mean tricks.

Once, after watching the worker bees leave for the day's toil,
he blocked the normal opening to the hive
and painted a black arch on the opposite side to simulate the doorway.

He then sat nearby to watch as the bees returned laden with nectar.
They would fly directly into the painted black arch, bang into the wood,
and fall senseless to the ground below.

Two old bees were perched on the rim of the hive.
One turned to the other and said
: "What bees these mortals fool."
