Supplies of most of the products on hand,
so we can start supplying to any
Clubs who want to sell early.
This also enables country Clubs to
make arrangements
to collect them when someone is traveling to
Perth
as there is not the margin in them for me to
be able to deliver,
Since becoming involved with
distribution
of Rotary Chistmas Cakes & Puddings,
We have been promoting donating
cakes & puddings to Foodbank
. The Rotary club of Bunbury Club
donates
about 100 to Bunbury Foodbank.
For the Clubs wanting to donate to
Perth Foodbank,
they just notify me what they want to donate –
some just give me a $ amount and
we make up a
mix of cakes & puddings –
then invoice them for the amount
and we do the delivery to Foodbank
. last year it was 14 cartons to
Perth Foodbank.
One of the reasons we promote this
is
because the recipients of food
from Foodbank do not usually get to
see
that Rotary is a strong supporter of Foodbank
and getting something with the
Rotary logo
is about the most effective way of achieving
this.

Rotary Club of Fremantle
On September 26th this Rotary year
the Rotary
Club of Fremantle
will celebrate its 86th birthday
The club was the second club chartered in Western Australia;
It was chartered in 1928 just 12 months
after the Rotary
Club of Perth in 1927
On June 27 1928,
a number of Fremantle businessmen were
invited to a meeting
at the Fremantle Chamber of commerce,
where they were addressed by
District Governor Fred Birks of District 65
In 1928 District 65 covered the whole of Australia
Others to address the meeting were the
Rotary Club of Perth President Sinclair J McGibbon
Sir William Lathlain,
the charter president of the Perth
Rotary Club
who was also a former Mayor of the City of Perth
There being 16 intending members it was decided to form a
club
And the first meeting was held at the Orient Hotel on July
11th 1928
Under the Presidency of GF Moore,
Fremantle became a chartered club no 2961 on September 28th
In that year with a membership of 16
the club topped the attendance list for Australia
Annual fees were Four Pounds and Four shillings
It took four years for the membership to top 50
and another 19 years for membership to reach 100
As membership increased so,
did the territorial area
Now sharing the whole of Western Australia
with the Rotary
Club of Perth
The Perth and Fremantle clubs were the only clubs
in Western
Australia
until the formation of the Bunbury Club
12 years later on
July 10th 1939
Fremantle club has provided from its ranks
several District
Governors,
and has been closely associated with the civic life of
Fremantle
At one time having six councillors in its membership
Two members have presided as Mayor of Fremantle
The late Sir Frank Gibson 1919/1923, 1927/1951
And Sir Frank Samson 1951/1972
Totalling between them a period of 49 years
A distinguished member of the Club was John Curtin
a war time Prime Minister who was made a member in 1942
He died two years later
In 1977 there was only one surviving Charter member
He was 90 year old Jasper Green
Jasper had the unusual classification of Outpost member,
Wool Growing
This was given to him when he left Fremantle
to live in Carnamah 300 kilometres away
where there was no
club
The classification allowed maintenance of membership with
40% attendance
Developments in the city over many years
have received
strong Rotary Support
and the club instigated and supported
these projects in its
early history
including the establishment
Young Men’s Christian Association
A Senior Citizens centre
A Meals on Wheels service
A Women’s night Shelter
A Prison Workshop
The Olympic Swimming poll
A Mission to Seamen’s Centre
A Heart Ambulance
and many others
In 1930 history shows
that the first Ladies
luncheon was held
And Ladies night’s were held annually and still continue
In 1932 a Fathers and Sons luncheon was held
This was changed to a Sons and Daughters Dinner two years
later
The current Fremantle Club
recently amalgamated with The Fremantle Port club
Today’s major Fundraisers and the Annual Art Show
And a combined Golf Day withe Rotary Club of Attadale
Currently meeting evenings at the
Villa Roma Restaurant
in High Street
2014 / 2015 President is Bob Coventry
thanks to Club Historian Don Bodlovich

All the monks in a certain monastery sing the simple word “Morning!”
from their windows each sunrise.
One day, after several “Morning!” greetings
had been sung,
a greeting of “Evening!” rang out.
In the courtyard below, a startled Brother Timothy said,
“Did you hear
that, Brother Edward?”
“Hear what, Brother Timothy?” replied Brother Edward.
Brother Timothy sang in reply:
“Someone chanted evening…”
