We had a great time at our community walk for
Mental Health Week.
Beautiful river walks, kite flying and bbq on a
perfect day.
for covering the cost of the BBQ.
We raised $134.70 for Mental Health Week! Thank you
for the donations!
A past project we were VERY proud to be a part of was the installation of a 2000 litre water
storage tank with reverse osmosis filter system in the village
of Plei Klau in Central Highlands of Vietnam.
The well, located in the heart of the village, is now providing
clean, filtered
drinking water for about 2000 villagers.
This project would not have been possible without the support of the the
, the Ross River Rotary Club of Townsville,
and individual donors.
This month we had District Governor Jon Bilson visit our Club.
A great discussion to help make Rotary great again!

With the aid of a Rotary Foundation District Grant, two tear drop banners and 2,000
forget me not lapel pins were organised by the RC Freshwater Bay
for the Forget-me-Not Memory Cafe meetings,
with the pins to
be provided to dementia sufferers.
Next phase of this project is to educate the public that wearers of the Forget-me-not lapel pin
are people living with dementia, and in times of them becoming lost,
or wanting to spend generously on their credit card and so on,
extra care and attention needs to be given to them.
Angi McCluskey, her daughter in law Stacey and supporters Ronnie and Peter Baldwin,
Laraine Civin and Mary Kelly attended the meeting of the RC Freshwater Bay
for Angi to be presented with the two banners
and 2,000 pins.
Congratulations Louis Wiinschl on receiving your
RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment)
attendance certificate. Proud father Joseph and Uncle Kim
were at the meeting with DG Colin
On Sunday evening we enjoyed a few rounds of lawn bowls
at the Inglewood Bowling Club
and welcomed some new friends.
While none of us will likely be going on to Olympic bowling careers,
we did have a good
time and ended the night with pizzas and a pool tournament.
Thank you to all who attended for a fun night!

Preparations are underway for a new fundraising event:
“Walk with Us” to end Polio.
Saturday 31 October 2020
Sugar Loaf Rock carpark to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and return
(with 4 km and 7 km options).
We are proposing a one off walk, possibly with a sausage sizzle at the end
and some spot prizes for participants to contribute
to a fun and casual setting.
We are creating sign-in sheets, doing a risk assessment,
and we'll have a map for participants outlining the distances and
course.
You may have seen lots of ads recently for a new movie on Stan,
called I Am Woman.
It’s the story of seventies Australian singing sensation, Helen Reddy.
We’re pleased to tell you that “I Am Woman”
is this year’s Polio Movie Event, raising funds
for Rotary’s #1 cause and we will be screening at the
Greater
Union Cinemas Morley, at 6:30pm on Sunday 22nd November.
This is a big movie and its producer says it’s best seen on the big screen.
The great news is that Stan has agreed for Rotary
to have the exclusive rights to show the
movie in Australian cinemas.
Shot in Sydney with a largely Australian cast and crew,
the story traces the life of the singer / songwriter from
the time she arrives in New York and it includes all her biggest hits.
Clearly, arranging gatherings of people in 2020
has a few more challenges than usual!
However,
with the appropriate measures, we can still do it.
This year’s Polio Movie Event is being run as a tribute
to Sir Clem Renouf, the RI President for 1978/79 from Ingham, Queensland.
Sir Clem, who passed away on 11th June, was a giant in Rotary’s history
and was one of the leading figures in our fight
to end polio.
So, let’s have some
fun and raise lots of funds for polio!
