You can support Hat Day too on World Mental Health Day (October 10)
or anytime during Mental Health Month in October:
With the ongoing COVID situation we are still working from home.
. . . however, the following is still
happening:
AID DELIVERY
Bhutan - The monsoons and a rise in infection rates
has slowed installation progress
but we are still anticipating completion of the
120 schools by mid 2021.
Bangladesh, Dhaka - A grant to the Rotary Club Dhaka Royal combined
with support from Disaster Aid UK and Ireland
has resulted in a Bubble CPAP machine being delivered
to the Bangladesh Children’s Hospital for COVID affected
babies.
DAA’s grant also supported 91 food parcels
being delivered to deserving families.
Bangladesh Agrabad - A grant to the Rotary Club of Agrabad
has been used for a food program for the Masajidda, Shitakunda school
which takes in orphans and children from poor families
who are unable to support all their children with the COVID
pandemic.
Beirut Explosion - We are working with Disaster Aid Europe
to have a SkyHydrant installed at a major hospital
and contribute to the repairs.
CELEBRATING
THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
We have posted on our website about DAA’s 10th birthday in May 2020
(The delay was
due to the fact we got a bit distracted due to COVID).
We also posted on the Disaster Aid International website
about the anniversary of DAI which is
in October.

Being awarded a Paul Harris Fellow is the highest token
of recognition that can be given in Rotary
. A few weeks ago, our club had the extraordinary honour of presenting FOUR
for their service to Geraldton and the Rotary Club of Batavia Coast.
(As a club we made 4 donations to the Rotary Foundation in their names,
so they could each receive a
Paul Harris Fellow!)
The Bell’s and the Ireland’s have been working thanklessly (until now!)
behind the scenes on one of our club’s biggest community projects ever:
donating their time, resources and skills to refurbish Geraldton’s Yellow Submarine
And it was only fitting that these Paul Harris Fellows be awarded their medals
“at sea”... well
at least on a boat
Unable to attend our gala evening last week,
Stuart was honoured this evening with a Paul Harris Fellow (sapphire pin)

all-weather undercroft project at the

It is not the first time Stuart’s vocational skills have been used
on a Rotary Club of Karrinyup Project -
with him having a long history of drawing plans for various projects
over the last thirty years, including for the

Dear 2019-20 Club President,
For several years and with the help of
Karrinyup, we have been supporting
's spectacle recycling programs.
Last night Arthur Blaquiere visited to explain what happens
once we hand over the spectacles.
The Club works with Acacia Prison, where a group of prisoners refurbish
and grade the spectacles ready for donating -
learning and practising a valuable
skill in the process.
Around 5000 have then gone to the See-long project in Sri Lanka (See-long in
Ceylon),
whilst others are forwarded to the
for their Helping Hands project and still others are distributed by local charities
to the homeless and other community
members in need.
Over the past few years we have enjoyed fabulous
support from
SpecsaversKarrinyup
who have not only collected glasses for us but have also passed on funds
as part of their Community program.
At our gala evening last week store manager Angela was presented with
a certificate of
appreciation as a small thankyou.
Although Angela was unable to attend this week’s meeting,
where we heard from Arthur Blaquiere
, from West Perth Rotary about their spectacle recycling programs,
she did send along two large boxes of spectacles as well as a Vertometer
that can also be used in the program.
Helen Tuckey was speaker at the RCFB on Wednesday, 7th October,
telling us about her life as a viola player, for the past 34 years with WASO
as well as with numerous other orchestras, etc.
Helen has worked locally, nationally and internationally.
She has given support back to organisations and the community over many years.
Helen's husband Rob, daughter Catherine and son Andy were in
attendance
Club Prez Don Burnside and Duck Derby Chairman Justin Walker were on hand
to hand over the big prize to the lucky
winner of this years
which was proudly sponsored by
Media Junction
Interact Digital
.
Now more than ever we need to give back to community
and our expert digital marketers
helped increase online ticket sales by 100% over last years figures
and raise tens of thousands of dollars for various beneficiaries.
Great work team and a big congratulations to Gordon Hudson,
a very well deserving winner
who has been instrumental in another charity
Couldn't have gone to a nicer guy!
We first partnered with Street Doctor back in 2016 where we donated 100 care packs
for those doing it tough on the streets
. In 2017 we went on to donate 350 packs and in 2018 we donated 500.
Last year we doubled that goal donating 1000 care packs
and this year we plan to achieve
that goal again!
To reach our goal, we need your help.
Please help make a difference this Christmas by making a donation
or spreading the word
with friends, family and on social media
The IT team Luc, Georgia, Mitch and Hamish were kept busy answering
all our Tech questions and showing us how to use our devices...

Great guest speaker today who enlightened us on the
brilliant work they do!
Right in our doorstep too!
for inviting us to share Hannah's House with guests
at the
this morning.
It was fantastic to be able to create awareness of the children in WA with life-limiting conditions
and complex needs and their families
. It was a nice opportunity to share with our ‘neighbours’ the work we do and the journey
we share in supporting our families from diagnosis to recovery
or sadly, bereavement and beyond.
President Patricia surprised us with a very generous donation from the Club for $1,000.
Many thanks to everyone for making
us feel so welcome and for embracing us so warmly.
More than a dozen Mill Point Rotarians and friends banded together
on Sunday morning 4 October
to plant over 1000 seedlings of sedges and shrubs along shores
of Lake Douglas on the South Perth foreshore.
These plantings help regenerate and restore these
important wetlands.
The planting team enjoyed hot food and morning tea kindly organised
by Rotarian Marg Evans and her team.
Many developing countries have hospitals who often lack proper medical equipment.
The Rotary Club of West Perth's MERC (Medical Equipment Recycling Committee) team
are committed to collecting medical equipment, devices
and supplies to be shipped to these facilities.
Donations of medical equipment and devices can be made by contacting our club
and one of our members will arrange for collection of the items.
These
donations save lives.
We are always happy to speak with medical facilities, hospitals and other
organisations
about how we can work together to reduce waste and re purpose
these items they no longer have use for
It was our pleasure today to deliver 176 items to
