Whilst COVID continues to dominate the headlines
and cause challenges for all of us,
I'm happy to report that ShelterBox is able to continue
to work around the globe.
By adopting safe work practices, distributing education
and information material,
and issuing handwashing basins, soap
and personal protection equipment,
we're making a real difference to the lives of those
affected by double disasters.
We are determined to continue to rise to these
challenges

So nice to see so many smiling faces
Tonight’s guest speaker was Ms Sienna de Jong,
a talented and inspiring young woman
currently completing Year 12 at St Bridgets.
Sienna was sponsored by our Rotary Club to attend the
National Youth Science
Forum earlier this year.
We have sponsored young people to attend this science forum
for the past eight years.
Sienna really enjoyed the forum
and was
particularly interested in forensic science.
This past Saturday we hosted our second annual quiz night fundraiser.
We had an absolutely fantastic night and raised over $2600,
to go towards helping us maintain our humble little club
and also to make significant donations to multiple youth organizations
in our community!!
Thank you to everybody that came out and supported us on the night.
As a young community group we aren't able to do what we do
without the support of the people around us.
Congratulations to all 11 Lynwood Senior High School students that received
their Rotary Club of Kenwick scholarship for
2021.
Our special guest for the night, Funmi who graduated last year,
thanked the club
for the support she and her family received.
Funmi has been awarded the Curtin University’s
“John Curtin Undergraduate Scholarship”
to cover the fees of her 5-year degree in medicine.
What an achievement!
Partnership Opportunities
with RC Beaufort
Collaboration is fundamental to the creation of social change.
Collaboratively combining skills, knowledge and expertise across sectors
with other clubs enables Rotarians to have more impact
on complex social problems than we can have when working alone.
Recently RC Karrinyup hosted RC Beaufort to become acquainted
and investigate ways in
which our clubs could collaborate.
RC Beaufort President Linda McCormack told us Beaufort is a young club
not yet three years old,
made up of a very diverse group of non traditional people,
who want to create “Positive Change through Collective Action!"
They are keen
to break down the barriers of old ideas.
Some of the areas of
focus include:
·
Journey to Reconciliation,
·
A future for every young person,
·
Refugees and asylum-seekers health
and well-being,
·
Reducing social isolation and
loneliness/Mental health awareness,
·
Animal well-being and the natural
environment.
They are keen to partner with other organisations to come up
with projects that make the most of everyone’s skills and
celebrate what we all have to offer.
Guide Dogs WA
Phil Ledger introduced Anna Presser, Manager of Guide Dog Services WA.
Anna was accompanied by Ambassador dog
Annie, who charmed everyone in the room.
Anna informed us that Guide Dogs WA is the original home of Guide Dogs in Australia.
The first professionally trained and registered Guide Dog, Dreena,
was brought to Australia from England in 1950 by Dr. Arnold Cook;
a visionary West Australian who also happened to be blind.
Many people ask why a dog to assist the blind instead of a cane.
Anna told us that where a cane bumps along in an uncertain manner
, a dog gently guides the person enabling more confidence.
It takes over two years and costs more than $50,000 to train a
Guide or Assistance Dog
Way back in 2019, club member Trish and some friends represented the Club
when we sponsored and filled a table at the
The BIG foodbank Quiz of the Year
Ambassador, Jack Redden - for which
supporter, Trish and her friends were the
successful bidders.
Unfortunately, before they were able to complete the tour,
Covid restrictions prevented it from taking place.
With recent relaxations of some restrictions, they were able to meet with Jack
and tour the
fabulous training facilities with one of the administration staff.
members and guests enjoyed another fabulous sunset
meeting at the
MAAC Marmion Angling & Aquatic Club
Last week our busy Vocational Director, Kay, and Committee Member, Jenni,
campus, to meet with our partners in our new VET Scholarship program,
and to view the whole health dept training.
What a wonderful facility!
They were given a grand tour and were most impressed with the
real-world like scenarios set up for the trainees.
They spoke with administrators about the success of the VET Scholarships,
what was achieved by last year's recipients, Ryan and Colleen
- and advised a new set of student applications was on its way
56 golfers took part in today's Cystic Fibrosis golf day
at the fabulous Busselton golf course.
Our sponsors deserve a big round of applause as do all the golfers
and Rotary volunteers who made it all happen.
Special thanks to our major sponsors:

filled with laughter, kitten cuddles and hard work!
Planning ahead ..
. it was wonderful to hear from Conference 2022 Chair Past DG Robyn
and DG Elect Pat on their plans to bring District 9465 Rotarians together
in Rockingham in March next year to 'Change
Lives'.
The highly successful joint project between Parks & Wildlife
and the Rotary Club of Palm Beach WA Inc
saw another batch of
lovingly crafted penguin nesting boxes delivered to Penguin Island.
Parks paid for materials for this year's Nesting Boxes and they were built by
Rotary.
The Rotary Club of Palm Beach WA Inc also paid and built the 30 sun shades
to go over the boxes along with 6 new lids for old boxes.
The volunteers will now
paint the tops of existing boxes to increase their longevity.
To date:
1. A Total of 43 nesting boxes built and co funded by Rotary and Parks,
2. 30 Sun shades funded and made,
3. 11 new lids for old boxes, and
4. Painting of 22 lids of old boxes.
Thanks to Parks, Miecha Bradshaw and Erin Clitheroe PhD student
who have both
worked closely with the Club on this environmental project.
Thank you Como Rotarians....it looks fabulous
What a fantastic effort on Saturday morning.
We were such a great team. 1545 towels sorted in total.
RCWE member Bruce Dufty
has just advised Curtin University’s End Trachoma Team who are under contract to the
State Government that they have 1545 towels to distribute.
I wonder home many we'll get sorted today.
We had an amazing family night tonight with guests from
Amanda Young Foundation,
Liddelow Quilters Group and Gosnells Volunteer Firebrigade.
Thank you for your continued help and partnership in our project

Last year our club together with Ray White Inner North
collected Christmas presents
for women and children living at Orana House.
This week Regina Collier, assistant manager of this women's refuge,
was our guest speaker
and presented a very informative account of the tremendous assistance
and support they give to women and their families
who experience domestic violence.
Pictured: Regina Collier with John Gardner

Club of Mt Lawley.
That’s our workout done for the weekend
Great effort from the team helping clear out some
of the shipping containers at the old
site before heading over to check out the new workshop.
What brilliant space! Thanks for having us
This year there is an exciting group of working writers
who will share their expertise with the students.
Sian finished with a presentation of the programme
and messages from the authors.
She thanked Margaret River Rotary for their contribution
and Maxine presented her with a cheque
Today a bunch of us enjoyed a most inspiring and informative
vocational visit to the Water Corporation’s Groundwater Replenishment
Visitor Centre in Craigie.
A long drive from where most of us live, but very worthwhile
and highly recommended.
The 1 1/2 hour tour was very ably conducted by the
Water Corp guides, Tamara and Nadine,
who really know their stuff. Water is a precious resource
and it’s very
reassuring to see how well our water supply is being managed.
