Chandigarh:
Rotary International expects India to be the first to be free of polio
among the four countries where it runs a campaign
and that should happen within three years,
says its president Ray Klinginsmith.
"As per our estimation, India will be the first of the four countries
(the campaign is active in Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India)
to be declared polio-free," Klinginsmith said.
Rotary International will formally declare India a polio-free country
within the next three years, he said.
About the success of the 'Polio-free India' campaign, he pointed out
: "There has been only a single case of polio reported in India over the last 11 months."
"In Nigeria, which has been the most highly affected country with polio so far,
we have managed to bring the number down to 21 this year," said Klinginsmith
who was on a short visit to this city.
Rotary International is one of the biggest service club organisations
with over 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide.
Club members are volunteers from varied fields and professions
who work locally, regionally and internationally to combat hunger, improve health
and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace,
and eradicate polio under the motto 'Service Above Self'.
About the role of the governments of various countries in the project, he said
: "Polio eradication is the biggest project taken up by us where
we worked in close association with governments."

Although not a Rotary event. Rotarians, Students,
other groups and sportspersons volunteered to make this day great.
An event held here in Corrigin yesterday
was the Annual Central South Seniors Games.
Teams came from towns from as far as Hopetown, Tammin, Merredin,
Lake Grace, Kulin & Kondinin plus our own “Corrigin Kelpies”
Last year it was held in Norseman and Corrigin won.
That is why Corrigin hosted them this year.
Lots of excitement and fun, a nice lunch was put on,
lots of nice cakes for afternoon tea, and a dinner served at night after the Games.
Corrigin won again this year.
Games were Netball Goals two lines seated had to pass ball down line
& back up other side to goalie that had to score a goal.
Most goals in 3 mins wins,
Shuffleboard slide a puck to marked lines with measurement points, highest score wins,
Beanbag passed zigzag down 2 lines to goalie who tossed through hole in standing wall,
again most through hole wins. A Quiz & An Indoor Golf (Putting) Game.

These craft markets held on the second Sunday
of each month bring a good crowd to Mundaring.
The markets contain stalls of a variety of craft ,
plants. produce and all sorts of "nick nacks "
They are held in Nichol st from 9.oo am to 3.oo pm.
(Next to the Mundaring Hotel)
A variety of food options are available including the wotld renowned
"Breakfast Muffins cooked by Mundaring Rotarians"
People have been known to travel over 100 metres
just to get one of these highly prized and nutritious chef''s masterpieces.
We usually have some entertainment as well.
. In june we have the UTE show.

Seniors Games in Corrigin.
Although not a Rotary event. Rotarians, Students,
other groups and sportspersons volunteered to make this day great.

SMILE
A boy was taking care of his baby sister while his parents
went to town shopping.
He decided to go fishing so he took
her with him.
"I'll never do that again!" he told his mother
that evening. "
I didn't catch a thing!"
"Oh, next time I'm sure she'll be quiet
and not scare the fish
away," his mother said.
The boy said,

The Supreme Court has ruled that there cannot be a Nativity Scene
in the Australian Capital this Christmas season.
This isn't for any religious reason.
They simply have not been able to find Three Wise Men
in Canberra .
A search for a Virgin continues.
There was no problem, however, finding enough donkeys to fill the stable.
