SCATTER MEETING
Ross O'NEILL had a great time at the Rotary Club of South Perth-Burswood
That’s awesome enough,
but when
you discover that 28 year old Kylie has been blind
since she was 3 years old
and has lost a leg to cancer,
you have to take off your proverbial hat and say
“Bravo!”
With the aid of crutches, Kylie climbed the 1042 stairs (51 stories)
of the former Bankwest Tower in the Perth CBD (now owned by sponsor
Brookfield),
in just over 40 minutes.
Past President of the Rotary Club of
Armadale, Peter Warren
, was also at the breakfast to receive a cheque from
event organiser,
Rotarian Rob Bunning, for the net proceeds of Peter’s
fundraising via the climb.
The cheque, for $2,142.00 was pre-sented to Peter
in
his role as WA & NT Director of Mukti Mission.
For the second year in a
row, Peter undertook the climb
and raised a significant amount for Mukti
Mission’s work rescuing
and empowering women and children in India.
A total of
around $50,000 was raised for Polio Plus,
Interplast, Mukti Mission, Teen
Challenge, Cancer Support
WA, Rotary for Melanoma Research, ROMAC and Wheels
for Hope.
Kylie is no
stranger to a challenge!
In 2014, she won the 2014 World Champi-onship of Blind
Sailing
and she is the current Skipper of the Australian Blind Sailing Team!
.
Aye, aye, Skipper! Well done!
