The Rotary Club of Karrinyup was delighted to induct two new members.
Tamara and Bruce, who have been visiting us for some weeks now,
Tamara, whose classification is Hospitality Management,
has had over
twenty one years of experience in the hospitality industry.
Bruce, who originally hails from South Africa, worked for nearly 26
years in anatomy.
President Trish presented both Tamara and Bruce with their name badges
and welcome kits

Did you know.... in 1951
in association with the Rotary Club of Perth,
founding president of the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley Fred Johston
was
instrumental in creating the first medical faculty in Western Australia
at the
University of Western Australia.
In his honour, the Fred Johnston
Memorial Trust Award
is given to the student or students with the highest
aggregate mark
in all level 6 units in the course for the
degree of Bachelor of
Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Tonight we
congratulated junior doctors Sharanya and Georgia
for receiving this
prestigious award and heard about their journeys through med school

Despite
having fewer people on the ground this year,
the Boulder Rotary Club’s radio
auction is back
with up to $40,000 in cash donations already raised.
For its 31st year, the auction
will kick off this Friday
and will run until Sunday, August 14.
Nearly 300 items worth up to
$60,000 have been donated,
including items such as memorabilia, gift packs,
a
table tennis table, jewellery, electrical goods, and vouchers.

Our guest speaker this morning was entertaining with a serious side.
Professor Max Kamien spoke to the club about his experiences
in Bourke (the
other side of the black stump) New South Wales
where he worked in the 1970s
with Aboriginal Health Services.
Max related the highs and lows associated with
remote communities
and the engagement of those communities,
and the government
and its role.
