planting trees last weekend
ROTARY Club of Pinjarra members planted about
700 native trees
and shrub seedlings in a degraded section
of bushland in Pinjarra.
The bushland reserve on Moores Road had previously
been used as
a motocross track and was quite degraded.
Rotary Club members hope to restore
the area to its former
condition.
Seedlings for the project were donated by the club
and the Shire
of Murray provided the tree guards.

Rotary Club of Scarborough
On Sunday 13th August a small group of Rotarians and
partners
met for breakfast to witness the presentation of Paul Harris Fellows
to Tookta and Alan Bennett.
Alan was a charter member of Scarborough Beach
Rotary some 33 years ago.
When Scarborough Beach handed back their charter
eight years ago
\Alan joined the Rotary Club of Scarborough.
Alan was active in
many varied roles in Scarborough Beach Rotary
culminating in being President in
2004-05
and continues to be active in Scarborough Rotary.
Since joining our
Club he has been a Director for four year
s and has been SwapMart coordinator
since July 2016
. The reason we are here today is to recognise both Alan and
Tookta
for the amazing work they do with their Christmas lights.
Whilst the
event was started by young neighbours, a brother and sister,
it has been Tookta
with Alan’s support that has really driven the initiative.
The whole street
(bar one house) is now involved.
The street takes great pride in putting up
Christmas lights
and the sight is quite spectacular.
Each year it gets better
and better, and to see the joy the displays bring,
not just to the children,
but whole families, reinforces just what Christmas should be about.
Whilst both
Alan and Tookta are involved, Tookta has the ideas,
plans and organises the
display and each year goes
off to get more bits and pieces to make the display
even better
than the previous year.
Alan and Tooka regularly climb on the roof
of their three story home
to put up lights, although Alan insists Tookta wears
a harness.
Last Christmas they added another dimension by having a
Wheelchair
from Wheelchairs for Kids on display
and people living in the street took turns
to rattle the tin.
All this effort resulted in $14,200 being raised.
The above
mentioned brother and sister presented a cheque to WFK
at the workshop during a
breakfast meeting.
Mention should be made that children were given sweets if
they donated.
This expense was borne by Tookta who would not accept
reimbursement.
Finally, Tookta and Alan we thank you for making Christmas
special
for so many.
In recognition of your efforts last years Board decided to
award a
Paul Harris Fellowship to each of you.

On Saturday 19th. August I attended a wonderful seminar.
It was the 47th.Rotary in W.A Ladies Seminar.
After entering the beautiful venue and being greeted
by
cheerful reception staff,
we were able to peruse and buy quality arts and craft
of W.A
.and then after a light refuelling we went into a beautifully set up,
decorated and welcoming seminar theatre.
From the M.C.,guest speakers, raffle ticket sellers,
catering staff,
food makers and clothes models a smooth operation held us all
enthralled, enlightened, energised and excited.
The prize list was amazing and
generous.
The recipient of the raffle money is Shelter Box a passion of this
years organiser.
This enjoyable seminar was relaxed and engaging.
It had been resurrected and rejuvenated by a small group
of women
led by June Wade past president of South Perth Burswood Rotary Club
after a 2 year hiatus.
June bought it all together in a professional manner
with
her small group of helpers and they all deserve
the accolades of a 350 happy
