It was 1954 and parents around the world were faced with the unthinkable reality
that their child could be next and that their love alone
could not protect him or her. Polio was rampant and struck
with no warning and with no favoritism.

Rotary Club of Northam\

Long time Honorary Member previously active 20+ years,
Vernon Ottaway passed away last Monday. 31 March
Vern would have turned 100 in August this year.
Vern was employed as Managing Accountant of the Water Supply
in Northam for many years and on his retirement from that
became Mayor of Northam for near 20  yrs.
He was a thorough gentleman, and his wife Emma,
pre deceased him 12 years was a real gem of a lady.

Rotary provided the clock tower and the actual clock in the 1990,s
in front of the Council Chambers,
and the Rose garden was created through Rotary
dedicated to her memory  in the first decade of this century.
