468

As you may be aware, the Centenary of Rotary in Australia will occur
in the 2020/21 Rotary year and to celebrate,
our District will combine with District 9455 to undertake a major project.
After inviting all clubs and Rotarians to suggest suitable projects
and having an independent panel review all suggestions,
the panel has recommended
“Australia’s First Clinical Research Centre for Autism – Clinikids”
as the most appropriate of the suggested projects.

For you information, the attached document, which is the project suggestion made,
provides further information on the project

The next stage of the process is the formation of a project committee,
which will be jointly chaired by the Immediate Past District Governor of District 9455,
Lindsay Dry, and myself, and include Rotarians from each District.
The first task of the committee will to complete due diligence
on the project and then, given a satisfactory result,
work with the project’s proponents to plan and implement.

I write to you seeking your assistance in identifying
possible members of the project committee.
Being a relative newcomer to District 9465,
I am less aware of the people throughout our district than you are
and therefore your assistance is requested.

While individuals with an existing interest in autism
will make suitable committee members, t
he skill set required also includes the areas of fundraising and public relations.

I would appreciate it greatly if you could advise me of the names
and contact details of people that you believe
would add value to the project committee.

I look forward to your response.

Yours in Rotary Service

Colin Burns

  Lest We Forget

Anzac Day is one of the most important dates on our club calendar.
Members and partners have the privilege of serving breakfast
to the community following the Anzac Day Dawn Service at Medina.
Despite the early morning start our spirits were high,
and with a great sense of camaraderie we served up breakfast to 600-700 people.
All went smoothly, thanks to the organization by our ever-competent
 Mr Michael Metcalf.
Our thoughts are with all of those who have served in the defense services

Mr Indifferent, An Animated Short Film

This animated short film captures the essence of its characters
 in a very compelling story.
Created as a PSA for Emirates NBD Bank,
the film’s purpose is about taking time to reflect
on how we can make a difference.
Let’s reach out to those who need help and volunteer
for causes that change us for the better, just as they change the world.

Before the next teardrop falls - Makali

Mr Makali is a Papua New Guinean artist
and the girl singing with him goes by the name Beix.
 Beix is Makali's younger sister
. The language they are using to sing the 2nd verse is Motu
, a local PNG dialect.
Hiri Motu, a slightly different form of the language,
is the third official language of PNG.
The other two official languages of PNG are English and Tok Pisin, or Pidgin.
PNG has 850 different local dialects
and Motu is just one of them. Motu is spoken by Motuans,
living in and around Port Moresby.
