Karrinyup Rotary has been privileged to support
Riding for the Disabled Carine for eighteen years.
Led by builder Ross, together with engineer Stuart,
the club was integral in providing the leadership, advice, consultancy
and technical expertise to convert RDA's need for an all weather facility
into a proposal that could be submitted for both approval and funding
for the facility, which opened in 2019.
At the recent renaming ceremony to Danjoo Koorliny,
one family told how the arena has provided an incredibly important place
within the community and especially for their family.
The club subsequently received an email and photos from Fiona and Andrew,
which tell a beautiful Rotary story, well worth sharing.
This is why we do
what we do!
There is no question that this arena provides an incredibly important place
within the community and certainly in the life of our family.
As you’re aware, James has been involved for nearly 3 years and the progress
he has made has been unmistakable.
He started RDA as a little boy who was severely traumatised by heart surgery,
subsequent life-support 2x with emergency interventions
and so many other medical complications.
When he first sat on a horse he was terrified - now, it’s the absolute joy of
his week!
The confidence it has given him is remarkable, but the physical therapy aspect
has led to greater gross and fine motor skills,
resulting in the ability to write his name just this past month.
This is such a huge achievement.
The smile on his face in this photo says it all and he now happily sits,
backwards, sideways, waves to me with both arms and can now use reins.
The Arena has provided a safe covered space to utilise in winter and summer.
For us this was particularly significant as James also has a lung defect
and on continuous prophylactic antibiotics (the same regime as a child with cystic fibrosis).
Being immune deficient and knowing that he is protected
from the elements in winter has been a necessary
and vital element to him riding.
Words cannot begin to describe the difference
Carine RDA
has made to James and therefore, our lives also - thank you.
To now have Josh involved in Horse Vaulting is just fabulous.
He is thriving and has his sights set on 2032 Olympics already!
To have this available within our own community and be affordable,
is such a privilege and gift.
We have explained to Josh how extraordinary this is
(instead of driving an hour and it only being an elite sport)
and we are sure it will remain a firm and amazing memory of both their
formative years.
We realise this is only a small part of everything you do. Rotary truly does
impact and change lives forever -
we treasure and recognise the significance of the gift of horse riding
within our very own community and the incredible impact
it is having not only for both our
boys, but therefore our family as well.
Warm regards Fiona and Andrew, Joshua and
James
Especially if action is taken early in life.

Swan Rotaract Club held their Official Charter Night
on Saturday evening 4th December at the Bassendean Bowling Club.
Over 80 attendees were present in celebrating the
newest Rotaract Club in WA
. DG Dee welcomed the 17 Charter members in the Rotary family
and handed over the Charter certificate.
The night was fun and casual with social lawn bowls,
which many took up the offer.
We want to thank everyone who attended the night and
supported us over the journey.
What started as a fragile idea over 3 years ago has
eventuated the birth of a new Rotaract Club
to inspire a group of young leaders who want to
make a difference in the community.
We want to give a special shoutout to DG 9465 Patricia Schraven
for attending the night
and driving up all the way from Rockingham.
It's fantastic to have the whole Rotary WA family
coming together
in support of us.
Phew what a week, hope you’re finding the time
to
be with those that make you smile.
Thank you for all that came along on Saturday
for the Rockingham Christmas Parade
and hope we waved as we joined in along the
way. Great times.
Have a great weekend

Had the pleasure of presenting the Rotary Leadership Award
to Blake at Halls Head Primary School today.
In short, to be a leader is sometimes not an easy path.
However, Blake makes it
look easy.
The first thing you notice about Blake is his smile
who recently supported ECS with a donation of a new truck.
This will enable us to collect and deliver furniture
and equipment that has been donated
by members of the Esperance Community which then helps support residents
and families in need.
For the last 15 years ECS has made do with a trailer
but demand for our services
has increased five fold over the last few years.
This will make a massive difference to how we are able to work.
Have you seen our truck driving around in town?
Give the guys a wave when you do.
They are doing amazing work for the whole Esperance community.
A huge thank you to the wonderful members
of The Rotary Club of Esperance Bay
helping out in our community!

Esperance Weekender
check out page 5 of this weeks issue for the story
It only takes a bit of generosity to make a difference in the world.
Using our internal communication tool, Slack,
REQ members have been sending each other positive feedback
and words of encouragement.
In doing so a tree will be planted somewhere in the world.
Through the continuous feedback provided to one another within the Club,
we've managed to plant 358 trees across the globe thanks to
Eden Reforestation Projects
How amazing and inspiring is that?
Men's Life Expo- 27.11.2021
Men's Talk - based locally in Scarborough
- are creating conversations and support
for people with Mental Health challenges.
Led by Paul Litwin (on the left in the photo) -
they are supported by the City
of Stirling - Mayor Mark Irwin in the centre.
Scarborough Rotary and Karrinyup Rotary
are also collaboratively supporting Men's Talk
- both financially and with physical support.
We hope that this will be the start of a long term
- mutually beneficial
relationship.
There were 23 groups participating in this initial Men's Life Expo
a great
start.
Congratulations to Lorraine Horsley on the successful launch of her book
. Chanthira our resident cartoonist used his talents with the

and to hear that she will be back in 2022.
The Club was excited to be a part of the opening of
the Jetty Baths beach redevelopment today.
The Camp Quality puppets joined us for our meeting on Tuesday night…
A few weeks ago we were presented with a large bag of woollen scarves,
made by students from Collier Primary School,
as a community project for the homeless
. We donated balls of wool a few months ago for the students.
Yesterday the scarves were donated to Perth Homeless Support Group,
who provide a wonderful range of support services to homeless people,
now reaching 150-200 people being fed, clothed
and supported in accessing other
services.
They greatly appreciated the scarves which will be
put to very good use next winter.
