Thanks to your generous donations,

the first shipments of ShelterBox aid have arrived in Ukraine.

Thousands of our mattresses have arrived in Ukraine,

they will be distributed to collective centres in Lviv this week

, offering people somewhere to sleep and keep warm at night.

Bales of thermal blankets, pallets of Shelter Kits,

solar lights and other essential items are on their way.

But our work doesn't stop there.

We also have a team working in Moldova,

where many people are fleeing from Ukraine.

The team have been visiting collective centres and working

to understand what people need.

Your continuing support is helping us reach people

who urgently need shelter and support -

both within Ukraine and in neighbouring countries.

National Flood Relief Appeal Distribution Australian charity,

 Rotary Australia World Community Service,

today announced that funds raised via their

national Flood Relief Appeal for people impacted by

the current floods in Queensland and NSW

 are now open for applications.

Local Rotary Clubs will be active in impacted areas

starting this week seeking applications from

families displaced due to the Floods.

“When we launched the appeal one month ago we said the

money raised will go directly and quickly to support those impacted,

and we are pleased to be in a position to act

 on that commitment today,”

said Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd CEO Andrew Woodward.

“The fact that some of the impacted areas are having to deal

with a second flood in a month is devastating,

and we hope that providing some quick financial support

will provide some short term relief and reduce the

mental health trauma being experienced,” Mr Woodward said.

Rotary Australia World Community Service has previously

raised money for Bush fire and Drought affected areas

and sees this disaster as just another where the network

of Rotarians can step in to assist.

Families that have been displaced should make contact

with their local Rotary Club to obtain the application form

for a $500 debit card (voucher).

Mr Woodward said that the voucher system being used

will provide support for not only the recipient,

but also the local community as the funds

 are used within the community,

thus creating a multiplier effect for the families

and local businesses impacted by the floods.

Rotary Australia World Community Service is a not-for-profit charity

that aims to be a leading Australian charitable organization

for people’s well being, supporting Rotarians

and Rotary Clubs undertaking humanitarian projects

 in Australia and overseas.

Tax Deductible Donations to the appeal can still be made

on the Rotary Australia World Community Service website a

Join with Rotary to promote the power of vaccines

to protect children and save lives

During World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, let’s advocate for polio eradication

and the importance of vaccines to the health and well-being of our communities.

Vaccines are one of the greatest advances of modern medicine.

They’re safe, effective, and save millions of lives each year

. Our progress in the fight to end polio is proof that vaccines work.

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative estimates that the polio vaccine

has saved more than 20 million children around the world from paralysis

. We need to continue vaccinating children against polio,

because as long as the poliovirus circulates anywhere,

 it is a threat everywhere.

Here’s how you can support Rotary’s efforts during

World Immunization Week:

§  Use the World Immunization Week Toolkit

for graphics and sample posts to share on social media

with the hashtags #EndPolio and #VaccinesWork.

§  Donate to PolioPlus to help Rotary and our partners deliver

 polio vaccines to vulnerable children.

Or start an online fundraiser using Raise for Rotary

and share it with your friends, colleagues, and family members.

All contributions will be matched 2-to-1 by

the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Rotary districts can give District Designated Funds (DDF)

to PolioPlus to help meet our goal of raising $50 million

each year to eradicate polio.

Neighbourly Helping Hand - Episode 2: 2022-04-02

The Rotary Clubs of Attadale and Fremantle held their 13th annual

charity golf day at the Royal Fremantle Golf Club on Friday March 11

. A brief summary of the day is from the photo story by Colin McCulloch.

We were very grateful to have LWP as our major sponsor again

and also thank our very generous minor sponsors: Cash Converters,

Neometals, Rallou, Ray White and the Royal Fremantle Golf Club.

The beneficiaries were once again Spinnaker Health Research Foundation

and Care Cure Support (who support Motor Neurone Disease).

Covid made the day more difficult to run in terms

 of not only seeking donations,

but also complying with the strict precautions

and keeping everyone safe.

Three teams pulled out at late notice due to Covid

but we still had 32 teams of four who enjoyed a very hot day

out on the beautifully presented Royal Fremantle Golf Course.

The small organising committee led by Chairman Rodney Rate

did a superb job with the organisation and the day went off like clockwork.

Last year $56,068 was donated to our charities

, but because of Covid, the final amount raised this year

will be below that, but still a significant amount.

The hard work never stops but all smiles with lots of eskys needed in the very hot weather

We have the Rotary Chocolate wheel for your chance to spin & win &

awesome display of our Paint The Town REaD & Battlefield Blue initiatives.

Free books for children to read, Bunnings vouchers to win,

and an exciting brochure with lots of information on Rotary Mindarie!

Great effort this morning at the roadside cleanup.

Big thanks to the Rotary and Vintage Car Club member for all your efforts

Saturday 17 of us squeezed into two small buses to tour

the Ferguson Valley where the first stop was in Dardanup

for coffee and scrolls for some of us.

Then off to Gnomesville to introduce “Swannie” to other gnomes.

We also visited the spectacular Wellington Dam mural then into

the important part of the trip, three wineries and a brewery

where we had lunch

. For some reason a light pickie evening meal was had

after this well organised tour.

Sunday was again a free day so many members toured around

other local areas including Bunbury and Collie

while the evening BBQ was a good way to wind down

and work out where to go on our next weekend away.
