An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five
die each year because of malnutrition,
inadequate health care, and poor sanitation.
One of Rotary’s areas of focus is to save the lives of these children
by giving access to health care, and through grants,
advocacy, and education.
As of today, we have raised over $7 million to support clubs responding
to the humanitarian crisis in #Ukraine.
These funds are being distributed via Disaster Response grants
and will be used to provide water, food, shelter, clothing,
and medical attention
to refugees.

Therese and Léonie reminded of this hard truth

the second time in history –polio-.
Join with Rotary to promote the power of vaccines to protect children and save lives |
During World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, let’s advocate for polio eradication and the importance of vaccines to the health and well-being of our communities.
Vaccines are one of the greatest advances of modern medicine. They’re safe, effective, and save millions of lives each year. Our progress in the fight to
end polio is proof that vaccines work. has saved more than 20 million children around the world from paralysis. We need to continue vaccinating children against polio, because as long as the poliovirus circulates anywhere, it is a threat everywhere. § Use the World Immunization Week Toolkit for graphics and sample posts to share on social media with the hashtags #EndPolio and #VaccinesWork. § Donate to PolioPlus to help Rotary and our partners deliver polio vaccines to vulnerable children. Or start an online fundraiser using and share it with your friends, colleagues, and family members. All contributions will be matched 2-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation. Rotary districts can give District Designated Funds (DDF) to PolioPlus to help meet our goal of
raising $50 million each year to eradicate polio. |

It was an evening where we
absolutely shone!
Congratulations and applause to Community Activity Centre Officer
Tiziana and VisAbility clients
Loc and Tammey.
All were awarded glass plinths to recognise their achievements at the
Rotary Club of Southern Districts Shine On Event.
Tiziana for her role in encouraging and motivating people at the CAC,
Loc for his amazing artwork
and Tammey for establishing Dinner Dates
- a social group for people living with
vision impairment.
All three live with vision
loss.
But it didn't stop there.
The Southern Rotary District agreed to auction off items
lovingly crafted by our clients
- two lazy Susans and Lola the mannequin,
along with a framed piece of artwork painted by Loc.
The items raised a staggering $2050.
Yes, you heard that right! This money will be ploughed back into the
Community Activity Centre
for more art resources.
Thanks to compere Chris Tallentire MLA
Thornlie Member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly
who placed an auction bid
and left with a lazy Susan! We hope it is greatly admired.
You could say we were winners
and grinners all around.
The fun continues with the help of Charter and Honorary Member
Brian Stanley
The power of collaboration
Together, the Rotary Clubs of Dalkeith and Crawley
are taking practical steps to help remote aboriginal communities
in the spirit
of reconciliation.
Dr Anita Bourke from the
received a request from a social worker
based in the remote goldfields
community of Laverton, for donated clothing and linen.
Specifically children and women’s clothing,
for the local Aboriginal community
seeking relief from poverty and
refuge from domestic violence.
Through connections made via
an initiative of the
Cobham Aviation Services were asked for help.
Very soon collections of blankets, towels and clothing were collected
and delivered to Cobham’s Perth terminal.
Here we see a photo of Belinda Strahan
from Cobham’s Perth Freight Shed
with 108kgs ready to be sent to Laverton
. Belinda
helped consign 25 boxes ready for uplift to Laverton.
The Rotary Clubs expects to send more items next week
to help the Laverton Aboriginal community.
This is a great example of collaboration in action:
Social Worker Amaka Nwankwo based in Laverton,
the Rotary Clubs of Dalkeith and Crawley,
and Cobham Aviation Services.
Last Sunday RotaryEQ will be practising ecosystem mental health care
by weeding and preparing the site for plants to go in
the ground of the conservation area of Banksia Woodland area
at Blue Gum Lake in partnership with Wirambi Landcare.
Last month a few of our members visited
Australian Red Cross Lifeblood
Midland to donate blood.
Contributions from Aksh, Rhys, Jia, Andrew and Jason
allows another 15 lives can be saved
. A special shoutout to Rhys who donated plasma for the first time.
Blood drives are a great and meaningful way to give back to the community.
Well done guys!

Paymasters in WWI. Brendan Cook presented his talk
on the Paymasters of World War I -
"To Their Credit".
An essential service that is normally completely unheralded and was performed
in very difficult conditions.
Thank you Brendan for your humorous presentation of a
potentially dry subject.
