50

Darryl Mills from the Dili Rotary Club in Timor.
Darryl has been said to be the busiest Rotarian in the world.
He is the Rotary Liaison Officer for Timor.
Darryl’s role commenced in 2002.
He has lived in Dili since 2003.
Darryl has a three part role.
1. He manages the containers and humanitarian aids that are sent to Timor.
He receives a container about once per week.
A network of Catholic sisters distribute the goods.
Once the system involved almost anything
and everything unwanted being sent to Timor;
these days a wish list is created
and needed goods are delivered.
2. ROMAC – Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children.
About 30 children with life threatening conditions
receive the much needed surgery each year.
It is a struggle to obtain the surgery for the children these days,
however, a great deal of success has been achieved.
3. Darryl also runs between 30 and 50 projects concurrently
. For example, the Kalamunda Rotary Club
runs an alternative ‘Schoolies’ Program,
where students do community work in Timor
instead of the usual things leavers do.

In October
10 Timorese young people will spend 8 weeks at Fairbridge;
the following year the Rotary Club of Dili
will take 10 indigenous young people from WA.

Australian Rotary Festival of Cricket at Lilac Hill 24-29 October.
We have some overseas cricketers as well as
Australian cricket lovers coming to play.
Assistance from Rotary clubs will be eagerly sought—
players and workers.
Any successful cricket carnival requires willing hands to provide food
and drink and conviviality!
You don‟t need to be a cricket tragic to be involved.

New Member Anne Skinner,

Anne was inducted into the Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie in May
.

A plastic bag of the little hats...some with mittens and/or booties,
was given to Jim Lavery, a past Kalgoorlie Rotary Club member,
who is now working in PNG and he took it on his return to PNG
and posted it to the Madang Rotary Club from within PNG,
which is how we overcame the cost of freight
and possible Customs charges.
The items were taken to and used at the Modilon Hospital in Madang..
..already the supply we sent has been exhausted.
We were aware from our links with the Rotary Club of Madang
of how much they needed support for their hospital maternity ward,
however we could have easily sent the hats to any of dozens
of hospitals & clinics in Papua New Guinea,
all of whom are in need of such resources.
We appeal to any-one who is interested in knitting
or who can donate wool and knitting needles,
to please contact us as
the Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie would like to continue this project.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

SMILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new mining Super tax and Royalties
are already having an impact on the mining industry
-----

A man walks into a dentist's office and says:
"I think I'm a moth."
The dentist replies:
"You shouldn't be here.
You should be seeing a psychiatrist."
The man replies:
"I am seeing a psychiatrist."
The dentist says:
"Well then, what are you doing here?"
The man says:
"Your light was on."
