Toby and Robyn

Toby reported on his own experience,
stating that he was impressed from the very first evening
when the group just began chatting to each other.
Next day they had the four activities:
team building with ropes, public speaking, positive thinking, resumès.
The evening was taken up with the RYPEN dinner,
 when the Rotary officials visited.
Toby was called upon to make the vote of thanks.
On Sunday they had the passing out ceremony which included a play.

He commented on the many benefits which included leadership development,
comfort with public speaking, meeting a great group of people.
Toby is a Royal Australian Navy cadet at TS Marmion
and is planning a naval career.
He believes the RYPEN weekend was most beneficial
in developing his leadership skill and will stand him in good stead
in his future career but first he is keen to give something back to the program

Community Service  Bruce Young

Bruce announced the winner of the Eddie Holmes Award
 for 2015/2016 is Don Buchanan.
Don was born in Collie and lived on his grandparent’s farm at Ballingup
where they had an interest in the tin mines at Greenbushes.
He joined the Royal Australian Navy at age 16
and spent 11 years at sea as a missile technician –
including two tours of duty to Vietnam -
before returning to work at the
Weapons Research Establishment in South Australia,
when he met and married Lesley.
But it through his work at the Men’s Shed
 we recognise Don today.

and wellbeing of members and reduce the number of men
who are at risk from preventable health issues
that may develop from isolation.
It is funded by the Federal Department of Health
. A member at Cannington Men’s Shed since it started
, Don is the current President.
He has also initiated a Computer Club to help members
cope with the technological age.
