Rotary Club of Palm Beach

Palm Beach Rotarian Mick Le-Cocq is currently in East Timor
as part of RPTLE – Rotary Projects Timor-Leste.
“Things change from day to day up here
We were here to do the guttering on the Birthing Clinic at Bugia.
It's a nice facility but had not had running water since
the plastic guttering failed five years ago” he said.
“That job is now finished and we should have gone to Gary-Ui,
but they have no power for us to use for our pumps.
So, we're going bush to harvest a spring,
3500 feet up in the mountains”.
The spring runs at 1Litre a minute, and the team
are installing two 2000Litre tanks to capture the water
 for use by the community.
The villagers are also taught how to maintain
the system into the future.
This is Mick’s fifth trip to East Timor in the past 3 years,
assisting communities with projects such as this through
 Rotary International’s Global Grants program.

Last weekend we headed to Tom Fisher House (ran by St Vincent De Paul),

and hang out for a few hours.
Thanks to the fantastic staff there for having us come along,
it was a great experience for all .
We'll have teams attending the house every Saturday night
for the next month in a bid to further understand homelessness
and the ways we can help to make a difference as a club
. Come to our next meeting
to see how you can get involved in

An Unexpected Furry Guest

While shopping at a local abaunnings hardware store
 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia,
a woman spotted a super cute brushtail possum enjoying
an all-you-can-eat buffet in the store's garden section.

"While wandering through the garden section,
I was surprised to see a very special animal customer
eating the tomato and strawberry seedlings.
A native Australian brush-tail possum, which is usually nocturnal
must have felt a bit hungry.
He didn't appear to be frightened and seemed to relish
 the attention!
Protected by law they can't move him more
than 30 meters away from where he is found."
