Three Rotary women were recognized on 7 March
at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., USA,
for their commitment to improving lives through
 innovative humanitarian projects.

The celebration, hosted by the World Bank Group Staff Association,
 and sponsored by Rotary International
and investment firm Oppenheimer & Co.,
was one of many events held this week
to mark International Women's Day, which is on 8 March each year.
It highlighted the positive changes women
 make around the world.
Annette Dixon, vice president of the World Bank for South Asia,
moderated the event.

Dr. Geetha Jayaram, a member of the Rotary Club of Howard West, Maryland, USA,
addresses mental health issues for poor women in developing countries.

Danielle De La Fuente, a member of the Rotary Club of Coronado Binacional, California, USA,
 shares how her organization,
The Amal Alliance, empowers refugee children around the world.

Marie-Irène Richmond-Ahoua, past PolioPlus chair for Côte d’Ivoire,
talks about the strides Africa has made toward becoming polio free

Rotary Club of Karrinyup

Many people, and particularly Rotary Clubs throughout Western Australia,
s major 40th anniversay project, the Earbus,
which was designed to work in the Kimberley region of our state.
The purpose built vehicle was completed and handed
over to the Earbus Foundation in April of 2017.
Up till now it has been hard at work in the Goldfields
and other areas but, with the Earbus Foundation of WA recruiting for staff
to attend interviews in Kununurra in the February newsletter,
plans are now underway for service in the Kimberley
Region, for which it was designed.

Maybe our friends at Rotary Club of Kununurra Inc.
can help? Know anyone suitable?

RC Karrinyup has been an avid supporter of the Rotary Youth Exchange program
for most of its forty four years,
so we were delighted to welcome Joyce Starr (now Johnson) to our meeting.
Sponsored by the Wanneroo Rotary Club,
Joyce came to Perth from Traverse City, Michigan forty years ago
 and attended Carine SHS.
She now lives in St Louis, Missouri, where she is currently
an Associate Vice Chancellor at St. Louis Community College.

Colin is the former District 9455 Representative
a position currently held by our own Heather Leaney

For a number of years, the McCusker Alzheimer's Research Foundation
has been a major beneficiary of donations from
Karrinyup Rotary Club Community Service.
Last year the Foundation was renamed Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation
to better reflect the nation wide work now being undertaken
. Some of our club members also volunteer
to assist in the research program.

At a recent meeting, Club members were privileged
to hear from CEO Liza Dunne about progress
being made by the Foundation in the area of Alzheimer's research.
