MELVILLE'S NEW ROTARACT
CLUB
AT YOUR SERVICE!
Today (Saturday 21 July 2018)
,
Applecross Rotary hosted a Melville Rotaract Information session and
lunch.
President Ian was really pleased to see a number of
Applecross Rotarians there.
Our club was joined by Rotarians from the Attadale
and Booragoon clubs.
Our own Lesley Combes told us that
she had been a member
of the former Melville Rotaract Club.
This experience
counted as an important part of her life
as a 19 year old country girl
coming to grips with living in the City.
Unfortunately, the old Melville
Rotaract Club folded some years ago.
What we know now -- continuing
support from Rotarians
is critical for the success of Rotaract Clubs.
The
number of Rotarians present today augers well
for the new Rotaract
Club.
We will be asking Rotarians to volunteer
to mentor our Rotaract
members.
Mentoring is valuable to retaining great members
and maturing the
new club.
Sponsoring (or co-sponsoring) a
Rotaract Club
is something that new RI President, Barry Rassin,
has high on his
list of things for Clubs to do.
It is on our members' list too.
We are
aiming to have our Club awarded a Rotary Citation this year,
and this
initiative will have us on the way.

Helping hand
for homeless
The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay
has facilitated a
much-needed donation
for several Busselton support services.
When the club heard Qantas was clearing its blanket
stock,
Rotarians Chris and Peter White travelled to Perth
to collect
as much as they could for the Busselton community.
The club acquired 100 quilts and 50 blankets,
which
they split between AccordWest,
St Mary's Anglicare Emergency
Relief
and the Salvation Army.
Ms White said the club was happy
to help support such worthy
recipients.
“AccordWest really work on the ground with the homeless
in
Busselton and St Mary’s and the Salvation Army
are quite prominent for the work
they do in the community
to support those in need,” she said.
St Mary's Anglicare Emergency Relief volunteer
Sandra Marriott
welcomed the donation.
“We are seeing more homeless in town than last year,
whether it
is people who are couch surfing,
staying in tents or cars, or who have no fixed
address,” she said.
“This winter has been particularly wet and cold
so this donation
makes a real difference.”
The donation coincides with Homelessness Week,
which runs until
August 12.
