Q: Who is Interplast?

A: That's a great question!

 Here at Interplast, we send out teams of volunteer plastic 

and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses

 and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery

 and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.

 We do this in partnership with local organisations, including hospitals

, universities and local NGOs.

 Our mission is to ‘repair bodies and rebuild lives’

 and we do this through providing surgical services to those 

who could not otherwise afford or access these,

 and by building the capacity of local medical systems 

through our training and mentoring programs.

Some more pics from the recent wonderful night hosted by Attadale Rotary

 with the amazing Guest Speaker Lyn Beazley 

and also celebrating 30yrs of Women in Rotary.

Earlier this year, as part of our Vocational Service, RC Karrinyup

 supported a team of student nurses by funding medical supplies

 and equipment to take for use during their training placement in Tanzania.

 Club Secretary Carolyn Prunster introduced

 Tania Beament, Director of the International School of Nursing & Midwifery

 at Edith Cowan University, and Rosebeth,

 a final year Nursing/Midwifery student and participant in the program.

Tania described the benefits of enriching the training

 of 'ECU Student Nurses and Midwives in a Global Classroom'.

 She explained that the program is offered by ECU to 2500 students 

with 580 graduates per year.

 It is rated in the 'Top 10' in Australia.

 For the international part of the course, students travel overseas

 to experience nursing and midwifery with limited resources 

and to develop an understanding of cultural and language barriers. 

This part of the course takes the students outside of their comfort zone,

 as they live in the community, and helps them 

develop resilience and adaptability – characteristics that cannot be taught in a clinic.

Our Rotary visitors from Japan who accompanied the Interact students

 attending Como Secondary College gave a fabulous presentation.

The club held its first dinner meeting this Rotary Year 

with about 25 members and guests. 

The flavorsome chicken and mash followed by delicious profiteroles 

was consumed avidly by all present.
Dr Rick Charlesworth 

provided everyone with an entertaining rendition 

of his life’s experiences having been a young boy

 living only a short distance from the bowls club 

including starting his school time at the local kindergarten.

 There is a family connection between Rod Shea’s and Rick’s family 

which allowed Rod to provide an insightful introduction to the speaker.

 Rick and his family have traveled widely with his careers

 as a hockey player and hockey coach 

as well as high performance coach although he thought the most difficult 

was as a Federal MP which entailed long distance travel

 and social isolation from his family. 

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the question and answer section 

related to a short discussion on the trials and tribulations 

of the very topical Fremantle Dockers. 

Richard Lugg proposed a very kind speech of appreciation to Rick.

Many thanks to Happy Dim Sim House for hosting us last night.

 The food was incredibly tasty and the service impeccable.

 Most of us struggled to finish the huge plates of food.

Doughnut  stall at the Seprentine/Jarrahdale Fair

Marcus Wong was the  Charter President

 of the Willetton Senior High (WSHS) 

School Interact Club where he laid the

 foundations of the Club's success.

 This culminated in the Club receiving the

2019 Youth Group Achievement Award

sponsored by the Seven West Media Group.

 Marcus graduated from Curtin University earlier this year

 after completing a double major in Screen Arts, 

Creative Advertising and Graphic Design.

 On 22 May 2019 he was named the

WA Youth Volunteer of the Year 

for his outstanding commitment to and positive impact on 

the lives of impoverished and disadvantaged people

 in Uganda and Ethiopia

What an action packed evening!

 We welcomed our new exchange student, Ingvild Nordahl from Norway

Our very own exchange student from Switzerland

 joined us for her first meeting.

 Welcome to our club Julia.

David our exchange student from Slovakia presented President Peter

 with his home club banner last night. 

So of course we had to give him one of our lovely Mandurah banners 

to take home in 12 months.

President Robert officially welcomed our Rotary Exchange student 

Julia Olenius from Finland last meeting by presenting her 

with her Rotary name badge.

 Later, Trevor Beaver presented Julia with a superb cake.
Welcome Julia we hope your time here with us is a happy and memorable one.
