Rotary
Elizabeth Quay has embraced
a number of cycling events;
from social cycling gatherings around the river,
to
some of us cycling in the 120km MSWA charity ride.
And then there is our
ongoing collaboration with Dismantle,
a leading social enterprise in
Perth,
which uses hands-on activities to connect with and
mentor at-risk youth
to enable them to become valued
and valuable members of society.
Dismantle’s flagship initiative is called
‘BikeRescue’,
a youth development program that teaches young people
all about
bike mechanics and mentors them to development social skills,
build confidence
and connect to educational and vocational opportunities.
Most cyclists will
know of the Bike Dr,
but you may not know that Dismantle created Bike Dr in 2014.
It’s now a standalone business which continues to support Dismantle
and their
social programs by providing work experience
and structured trainee ship
opportunities for Bike Rescue graduates.

A number of clubs in
district 9455 are assisting in the construction
and furnishing of small homes
for the homeless
through the My Homes project.
We have been offered a
large number of beds (over 50)
which we would like to accept and store
for at
least 6 months to use in these homes.
If anyone has access to warehouse
space
that could be used for this purpose,
could you please contact David Motta
or 0142 373 233.

Our club put on a BBQ for riders in
the South West Bike Trek,
delighted to do our bit to support this most
worthwhile event.
Last week the RYLA camp happened at Bickley Recreation Camp.
RYLA
(Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is an amazing 5 day camp
for young people aged
18-25.
They learn about goal-setting, team work, and personal leadership.
The
program has been designed around a TAFE Leadership Certificate 1
that the
campers receive upon completion.
Our
club was so pleased to sponsor Ali from our partner school,
the Intensive
English department at Cyril Jackson College.
According to some of
the other campers, Ali was a little quiet on day 1
, English being his
fourth language,
but came out of his shell pretty quickly!
Ali won the "Funniest Learning
Moment" award.
When they were on a bush hike, his team came across a
dugite snake
on the path. Everyone stepped back except Ali, who said
"It's
so cute, can I pick it up?" 😲🐍
We've
had the pleasure of meeting Ali a few times now
and he is a truly wonderful
young person who is going to achieve so much.
Ali is a big believer in moving
outside his own comfort zone
and we can't wait to see where the future takes
him!
A huge
thank you to the team at Cyril Jackson for their support
in promoting the
program to their students and a big well done
to the team of Rotary volunteers
who develop the camp and run it every year.
Congratulations to our recent RYLA
participant Kai Best
on being awarded Youth Citizen of the Year for the City of
Kwinana.
We are looking forward to having the pleasure of Kai's company
in the
near future when he visits our club
to speak about his experiences at RYLA.
Lovely night! Lots of $$ raised for
Rotary
and Champion Bay Surf Life Saving Club..
. 🍷 Great
job Deb & Mark! Dead Reds was another success! 👏
Thank
you to everyone who donated raffle and auction items 🤩
These
people looked pretty thrilled to receive them!
Meeting last evening at the RC
Freshwater Bay our speaker
was The Hon. Nicholas Hasluck who spoke about a
memoir he has published
called 'Beyond the Equator'.
In this book Nick tells of
life in London in the 1960.
Visitors attending the meeting were Judge John Reilly from Calgary, Canada,

Hasluck
and new member who will be inducted into the Club
next Wednesday,
Ronniet Orlando.
After the meeting, guests, together with members
had an enjoyable meal at
Bellissiomo's Italian Restaurant in Claremont.
A great meeting and evening
which was enjoyed by all.
Last night we got 2020 off to a great
start at The Westin
with our Presidents Cocktail and Bushfire Fundraiser.
We
had a very interesting guest speaker
in Darren Klemm AFMS the DFES
Commissioner.
We met the 2020/21 Board, announced a whopping $41k raised
by
Vienna Pops NYE Gala Concert.
Path of Hope announced a Breakfast at Tiffany’s
theme for the Path of Hope Ball
. We have a Chinese New Year lunch on the 7th
next Friday
Lunch and a year full of events and helping our community.
Perth
Rotary 2020 is going to be packed full of fun and fellowship.
The Rotary Club of Osborne Park
worked with other Rotary Clubs in Perth
to contribute funds and arrange a
Christmas dinner for the homeless.
The event was a great success with lots of
people,
a wholesome meal, free coffees and ice creams from the kind vendors
.
The lunch was organised by the Rotary Homelessness We Care project
(HWCP on
Facebook)
. Well done HWCP!!
One of the enjoyable experiences of
belonging to a
community-based organisation like rotary
is being able to make
new friendships and have a lot ☺️.
Our club
whilst raising thousands of dollars for many good causes
with a lot of hard
work also finds the time to enjoy each other's company
and do things we may not
otherwise do.
Last
night we had a great time playing barefoot bowls
. Whilst there were not any Commonwealth
Games athletes playing
it was a great afternoon followed by enjoyable
dinner
as guests of the Warwick Bowling Club.
