South Pacific & Philippines Office - SAVE THE DATE

Rotary’s Centenary is a time of celebration!
It Is a time to reflect on our past, and take pride
in all that has been achieved.
It is a time we play our part in the history of Rotary.

Our centenary is also the time to lay the foundations
for our future, as we still have much to do.
The key project in our centenary year will focus
on stopping the one in 16 children who die
in 9 Pacific nations before the age of five.

We invite you to join Rotarians across Australia
on 10th July for virtual fellowship,
as well as meet our R100 Centenary Ambassadors,
the Governor General and Mrs Hurley,
as they launch our national centenary campaign.
By joining us, you will witness the “Passing the Baton” ceremony
. The baton that will carry the symbols of our centenary
and will travel far and wide across Rotary clubs and Districts.

Please pass this invitation on to as many Rotary clubs
as possible so that they too can join this event
We ask too for your support in helping us raise funds
 for our R100 Centenary project,
 "Rotary Give Every Child a Future";
saving young lives in Pacific nations.

Please expect registration details on how
you can join within the next week.

We look forward to you joining in
and making your mark on history!

Kind regards,

Garry Browne

Did you know that many medical facilities,
 when upgrading equipment,
will leave old equipment in storage for years
before disposing of it?
This equipment could save lives in other countries.
The MERC (Medical Equipment Recycling Committee) Team
that collects, sorts, packs, and transports superseded medical equipment
 for use in developing countries,
 diverting these away from landfill.
They help supply health clinics and hospitals predominately based
in Asia/Pacific and Africa which provide health care
to some of the poorest people in the world.
Donations to the MERC's efforts are always welcome
and greatly appreciated, as many of these facilities
simply cannot function without the support of organisations like us.

If you would like to donate equipment
or would like more information on how you can help
support this project, please get in touch with
Tina Arthur via our Club.

A few Como Rotary members, including JPE Clementine Kohler
and the Carson Street School Sewing Group,
visited our wonderful friends at Start Over Support (SOS) today.
This was to follow up the kind offer from Brad & Kathy at SOS
to accept donations of material and cottons from their supplies
to support their sewing for the children at Carson Street School.
Also to take a tour over their large warehouse,
which is well organised with many volunteers on hand,
 and very impressive.
SOS support women and children who need to set up home,
escaping from crisis domestic situations,
which during the recent COVID-19 times has been on the increase
in our community, therefore causing extra demand on SOS.
The Sewing Group accepted material for their needs,
and also accepted material to be passed on to the
Rotary Containers for Timor project.
Thank you Brad& Kathy and the SOS team.
This is Community collaboration at its best!

Como Rotary Club is a proud Community Partner with SOS.

What a welcome! The "Art Instructors"

At tonight’s dinner meeting, Darrel Donovan,
Community Director, presented two more of our Rotary Community Grants.
They went to Allana Vegar, representing the chaplaincy
at Hillman Primary School
and Graham Martin from the Rockingham Marine Rescue.

And we’re back!
It was so good to host our first in-person Rotary Club meeting
for some months, after an interesting few weeks on Zoom.

Bring on the rest of 2020!

is just one of our

Communtiy Projects.
Now managed by their own committee of members,
Covid meant it had to close for a period of time -
but members are delighted that it re-opened again this week.
In this Post-Covid enviroment, daily attendance will be limited to 12
persons plus supervisor inside the workshop
and a further 3 persons in the gardens or computer room.
