New Rotary Area
of Focus: Supporting the Environment.
The Rotary Foundation Trustees and Rotary
International Board of Directors
have both unanimously approved adding a new
area of focus:
supporting the environment.
More than $18 million in Foundation global grant
funding
has been allocated to environment-related projects over the past five
years.
Creating a distinct area of focus to support the environment
will give
Rotary members even more ways to bring about positive change
in the world and
increase our impact.
Supporting the environment becomes Rotary's
seventh area of focus
, which are categories of service activities supported by
global grants.
It joins peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease
prevention
and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal
and child
health; basic education and literacy;
and community economic development
I have just attended the funeral of Clem via
videolink.
I was asked to present a eulogy which was read by a local
Rotarian.
Clem and I forged a very close working relationship with
both
the 3H Program and PolioPlus
and we each stayed in each other’s home on a
number of occasions.

said: "My
highlight from the past year would be seeing
the Rotaract club of Belmont grow.
We started as two people that wanted to create a club
to help young people with
the
ir careers, but more importantly to create positive change
within our local
and global community.
Since then we have grown, we now have 15 enthusiastic
members
with which we held our first ever event,
that was very successful.
We
now also have a heap of plans and goals
for the future to create change.
This
Rotaract year as president has been a challenging one
but I’m happy and proud
of every one of my members
and the club that we created.
I only hope that we
continue to grow so we can give back
and positively impact our community."
Do you have an affinity with Latin
America?
Many people have been impacted
financially by COVID-19.
In particular, international students have been hard
hit,
with sudden loss of part-time jobs, cancellation of all flights
and family
back home also affected.
Many students are skipping meals and have no way out.
Although Rotary in Australia often has a
focus on our
near neighbours in the Asia Pacific,
many Rotarians and
Rotaractors have a strong affinity with Latin America
due to our long standing
exchange program,
as well as family ties, professional links, travel
experiences and
a love of the rich culture that Latin America offers.
The
students who are in our communities now
are our neighbours and friends and they
need help.
to enable tax-deductible donations via
RAWCS - Rotary Australia World
Community Service
to provide much needed relief for students from Latin
America.
Somos21 is a not for profit organisation promoting greater connection
and collaboration between professionals across Australia and Latin America.
Significantly, the first $15,000
received via
will be matched by a Rotary Australia Compassionate
Grant
to make $30,000.
Help us reach this goal before June 30.
If you are able to donate, please do, or
please share our campaign.
