Rotary Polio Movie Event 2020
You may have seen lots of ads recently for a new movie on Stan,
called I Am Woman.
It’s the story of seventies Australian singing sensation, Helen Reddy.
We’re pleased to tell you that I Am Woman is this year’s Polio Movie Event,
raising funds for Rotary’s #1 cause and we will be running an event
at the Sun
Pictures Cinema, at 6:30pm on 27th November.
This is a big movie and its producer says it’s best seen on the big screen.
The great news is that Stan has agreed for Rotary to have the exclusive rights
to
show the movie in Australian cinemas.
Join us in Vic Park on Thursday 3 December for an evening
of food and fun with Peter Rowsthorn …
and support families in need
this Christmas.
The Rotary Club of Perth and the Rotary Club of Melville
on behalf District 9455 and District 9465 have joined together
to create an event in Western Australia that celebrates
the First 100 Years of Service of Rotary in Australia –
The Centennial Gala
Ball
It’s a special time in the history of Rotary in Australia and NZ
as we celebrate the First 100
years of Service in 2021.
In 1921, four Rotary Clubs were created in
Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Sydney.
From there, Rotary and Rotaract clubs were created everywhere
across Australia and NZ with the Perth Rotary Club
being the first club to charter in Western
Australia on 15 April 1927.
As Australians, we all share a centenary in 2021
and therefore it is fitting that we should all come together
and celebrate the common legacy that we as Rotarians leave behind.
Think about the impact we have made in this State and this Country!
Lets shout out loud and celebrate!
There are limited tickets available for this premier celebration of Rotary in WA.
Therefore, I urge you to get in contact with your fellow club members,
organise your table and book on line as soon as possible,
otherwise I fear you will miss
out.
Tickets are available at
There will be further communication from DG Jon Bilson
on behalf of District 9455 in relation to an inaugural award
for Excellence in Rotary Service to Western Australia.
This award will be incorporated into this celebration of Rotary WA.
Should you have any queries in relation to the above event
or require assistance in booking your tickets,
please don't hesitate to contact me direct

John Tuffin, President of Rotary Club of Booragoon,
received three awards from our District Governor, Colin Burns.
The awards represent sustained and significant contributions
to making a difference in the world.
In particular, our little club has made one of the highest contributions per member
in our district to Rotary's fight to eliminate the scourge of polio
worldwide.
We helped to buy a car!
We are so pleased to see such an incredible outcome
! Our Club was very touched to receive such a heartfelt thank you
from the local Marnja Jarndu Women’s Refuge this week and
we are proud to support a safer community, both near and now afar
“The vehicle was handed over to the refuge yesterday at 4pm.
We are very grateful and this could not have been possible without the
generous support from the White Ribbon Gala Event
We would like to thank you all from the Board,
all the staff and clients of Marnja Jarndu.
We will now be able to include support to vulnerable women and children
by offering outreach to the remote aboriginal communities within the West Kimberley.”
- Desma, Manager Marnja Jarndu Women’s Refuge
We congratulate Nour,

We got up early, packed our bags and set up
our stall at the Bunbury Markets
It was great to have the opportunity to chat to the people in our community
about our current projects and raise some funds at the same time
We'll be back at the Bunbury Markets on the 5/12
so if you missed us today,
come and say hi
Thank you
for having us
How great is it to be able to hand over a
cheque for $2,000 to
?! We truly hope this brings some joy to the educators who work
so hard every day supporting Geraldton families -
especially during the uncertain times at the beginning of the COVID pandemic
Keep up the
amazing work
RF Ambassadorial Scholar Justin Hewett, who was sponsored in 2011-12
to undertake a Masters in Chinese Law at Tsinghua University in Beijing
told us about his time in China,as well as information on
the country.
Justin also told of his professional life since, which included working
in China, Perth and London for Clifford Chance.
He is still working in banking, however, in a law firm
which has more regular hours, allowing time for family.
November is Rotary Foundation month and Justin
is an excellent example of an exemplary Scholar,
who which hard work took opportunity which came his way
and
has excelled in every area.
He is fluent in Mandarin, married to Angie
and four months ago welcomed first
bub Olivia into the family.
Well done Justin.
We are all very proud of you and delighted you are achieving
so well.
. This week our International service team organised a very inspiring visit
to their fabulous new workshop at Wangara.
It
was wonderful to see so much progress since our last visit!

have been busy with many projects this past year.
Last year they assisted us with our Harvey Norman VIP Night sausage sizzle
and now that they have a bank account (many thanks to Don!
) we are delighted to present a cheque
for $250
We can’t wait to see the future of the Swan Rotaract Club
and can’t wait to see
them charter in the near future.
Applications for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)
for 2021 have
been extended to 15th December!
We still have places available for RYLA in January 2021
that we need to fill in order to make
the camp a success.
If your club has someone they'd like to nominate,
but has yet to do so, please get the application
to us as soon as possible to that they don't miss out!
You can either email to
or submit online at https://forms.gle/Xseqmn3c6FUYxX6n9.
To assist with our planning, please do let me know
if you have an application on the way so I can make sure
we hold a place for them
(as long as we get the form by December
15th!).
RYLA is held at the Serpentine Camping Centre
from Saturday 9th January – Saturday 16th
January 2020.
Rotary Club Sponsorship for a RYLA participant is $850,
and the participant contribution is $200.
This includes all activities, accommodation and meals for the week.
If any participants believe they will struggle to afford
the $200 contribution, please ask them to apply anyway
and we can come to some arrangement.
I'd
hate for anyone to miss out for financial reasons.
The application form is available online
