Pictured with his grandparents, who have been long standing members of the Club,
were amazed at how much he has developed and grown from the RYLA camp
in such a short amount of time.
We thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and how the camp
has improved his leadership and personal skills.
This years RYLA attendees from the Willetton Senior High School

On February 17, our friends at El Galleon Resort made a presentation
of school supplies on behalf of the Club to teachers from
three Mangyan schools.
The Mangyan are a tribal people living in the mountains
behind the resort town of Puerto Galera.
The presentation would normally take place at the schools
but because of the COVID pandemic the schools are closed so the teachers
were invited to El Galleon Resort to collected the assorted stationery, reading books,
writing pads, pens, pencils and crayons that the
Club had donated.
El Galleon provided food and drinks to the teachers and we are advised
it was a successful and enjoyable day and our thanks go Allan, Paul, Rhuby
and the staff of El Galleon for their valuable assistance.
Last night members went to the Rotary Club of Pinjarra
who had a fantastic guest speaker in Geoffrey Thomas,
foundation Editor in Chief Airlines Ratings.
His knowledge, factual evidence given plus of course some humour from
accross the years of working in the business was
amazing.
Geoffrey showed us some data showing the dramatic reduction
in air travel due to Covid 19.
Currently a lot of flights are flying empty of
passengers and full of freight.
The airlines business is losing a lot of money as
airtravel is down approx 40%.
Many planes are being stored in desert areas to avoid corrosion.
These planes need to be maintained weekly

Rotary Peace Fellows are social change
leaders, who are chosen for their ability to have a significant, positive
impact on world peace throughout their careers. They are the next generation of
Peace Makers.
Through training, study, and practice,
Rotary Peace Fellows become leaders and catalysts for peace and conflict
resolution; many go on to careers in national governments, NGOs, the military,
law enforcement, and international organizations like the United Nations and
World Bank.
Each year, Rotary International selects
up to a hundred professionals from around the world to receive fellowships to
study at one of their peace centers. These fellowships cover tuition and
fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and
field-study expense.
RC Karrinyup is currently sponsoring
Bronwyn Manley, who is studying a Masters in Education and Peace and
Conflict Resolution at at UNC (The University of North Carolina) and Duke
University (also in North Carolina). Bronwyn gave us a brief update since
her last visit to our club eighteen months ago. She is studying with nine
other Peace Fellows from various countries, including Mexico and Vietnam.
She spent one and a half semesters
studying in the USA before she returned to Australia due to COVID-19. She
is now completing her studies online, doing the 'night shift and working in US
time. She is focusing on refugee education needs and research in the hope of
improving the lives of some of the these people who are suffering extreme
levels of stress.
